December 9th - 13th
Last Friday was a big deadline. That means that all coursework should be up to date and one quarter 2 work sample should be turned in to your cohort teacher (one work sample for each subject). If you have an accountability plan and have not followed the plan, you will now be issued an action alert. Teachers are here to support student progress and success. Please use office hours, workshops, and our support to make sure you are caught up.
In regards to workshop dates remaining this semester... we have workshops on the following dates:
Tuesday, December 10
Wednesday, December 11
Thursday, December 12
Tuesday, December 17
Wednesday, December 18
Tuesday, January 7
Wednesday, January 8
Thursday, January 9
The week of January 13-17 is the final week of the semester and workshops will not be held. We have the Academic Showcase on January 15 and all first semester work must be completed by January 17. January 14, 15, & 16 are reserved for appointments with teachers to make sure that all work is submitted and content assessments completed. There will be no extensions beyond January 17, as the platform updates and second semester courses will be uploaded.
Registration emails for the 2020-21 school year will be released last week. We anticipate having a lottery, in February, for new students wanting to enroll at CAO. Please make sure to complete your registration and bring in supporting paperwork before the deadline to secure your spot. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
Thank you for partnering with us!

PSAT Scores
PSAT:
Students in 10th and 11th grade who took the October 2019 PSAT will be able to view and access scores by logging into their individual College Board accounts. Scores will be released by The College Board and will be available sometime during the week December 9th - December 13th. Students can utilize Khan Academy for personalized practice for the SAT. Please visit the following link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=patbkNnnAQ4 for instructions on how to link your PSAT scores to Khan Academy for practice testing. Linking your accounts will personalize your practice testing and can GREATLY improve your future SAT scores.
Included in your student's packet is a helpful tool provided by the College Board and My College QuickStart. My College QuickStart is an easy-to-use, online, personalized college and career planning tool available free of charge to all students who take the PSAT/NMSQT. The information and answers your child provided when they took the test are incorporated into this useful tool, and it presents their data back to them in six main parts:
My Online Score Report- an enhanced score report that allows students to review each test question, the student’s answer, and the correct answer with answer explanations.
My SAT Study Plan- a customized SAT study plan based on student PSAT/NMSQT test performance, highlighting skills for review and practice.
My Personality- a detailed personality test that helps students better understand their own strengths and interests.
My College Matches- a starter list of colleges based on the student’s state and indicated choice of major.
My Major and Career Matches- major and career matches that are compatible with the student’s general interests and personality type.
My AP Potential- a report that shows students which AP® courses they may be ready for and which match the college majors that interest them.
Access is available using the access code printed on the student’s paper score report, and the tool can be utilized throughout high school. Using My College QuickStart together with your child is a great way to introduce and guide your child through important aspects of the college-going process. Visit https://www.fa.org/uploaded/US_Attachments/MyCollegeQuickStartRef.pdf
If your students identifying information is incorrect on their score report or if you have trouble accessing your account then you will need to contact the College Board to have it fixed. Big News! Students can receive Palomar College Credit for classes at CAO!
What is high school articulation?
An articulated high school course is one in which a determination has been made that a course offered at the high school level is comparable to a specific community college course. High school students have the potential to earn college credits by taking an articulated high school class. When a student earns at least a letter grade of B or higher, high school and FREE college credit can be earned at the same time.
The Classical Academy Online program has been approved for the following articulated courses with Palomar College:
Keyboarding; a one-semester class offered zero period, equivalent to Business 165
Digital Art - Illustrator: year-long class offered third period, equivalent to GCIP 152: Digital Publishing/Illustrator I.
Keyboarding will be offered second semester, zero period, at Classical Academy Online. Students may enroll in this class by signing up on the waitlist with Mrs. Chatton. Priority will be given by grade level, starting with Seniors.
Students currently enrolled in Digital Art - Illustrator are already eligible and will be provided with information in class to sign up.
We are so excited that our caliber of classes are being recognized as college level instruction!

Need Community Service Hours?
We continually publish new community service opportunities for students. Don't leave hours until the last minute!
This year, we have an opportunity to support the Fitness Freedom Project, which provides affordable gym memberships to Veterans. By filling a two-liter plastic soda bottle with dimes, you can donate the bottle to FFP for 50 community service hours! A filled bottle is a $500 tax-deductible donation that helps Veterans in our own community. This community service opportunity is in memory of Jay Coon.
Taking Public Transit Just Got More Affordable for Students
Students in San Diego County now have more affordable transit options. As of Sept. 1, youth passes for the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and North County Transit District (NCTD) are $23 per month (down from $36). Additionally, a new youth day pass option is available for just $3.
Youth passes are available for students ages 6 to 18 (children 5 and under ride free). A school ID, transit identification, or government-issued photo ID is required to purchase and use a discount pass.
Students can get Youth Compass Cards at the MTS Transit Store (downtown San Diego), NCTD Customer Service Centers (Escondido, Oceanside, and Vista), and at all Albertsons and select Vons stores in San Diego County. The passes will also be available on the Compass Cloud mobile ticketing app (additional eligibility requirements apply).
