September 14th - 18th
Lots of great announcements as we enter Week 4!
Work Sample Collection Process
Work samples will now be collected electronically through Schoology. The teacher will assign a Summit checkpoint, directing the student to Schoology, to complete an assignment. The first page of the assignment will include the student filling in their first and last name only. This is called our Assignment Work Record page. It is like a cover page for the work samples. The second and third pages will be the work samples that have been pre-dated with due dates. Each teacher will set the assignment, such as copying a page of notes, answering a reflection question, or responding to work they have already completed. Students will complete this once a quarter and it will automatically populate their audit file. These assignments allow us to collect files electronically for our audits. Big deadlines will remain the same and work samples will be checked in that process. PE and Reading logs will not need to be printed, but will need to be filled out in Pathways by the parent educator. PE assignments will also be given in Schoology by the student’s cohort teacher. These forms will be confirmed at your cohort meeting, at the end of each quarter, but must be completed when they are assigned.
This process will streamline the work sample collection and provide accurate reflections of student progress.
Content Assessment Update
Summit has updated the platform to allow for easier access to taking Content Assessments during this time of distance learning. There is now a longer window for a teacher to approve an assessment before the student must begin, so no more timing out of approved requests!
We are still asking for your parent partnership to help maintain academic integrity by acting as the parent proctor at home, but you now have 8 hours in which to begin the assessment.
Students will need to:
1. Complete the diagnostic in the Focus Area
2. Take notes from at least three resources on the Focus Area playlist
3. Create a goal in Summit for that Focus Area
4. Request the Focus Area Content Assessment in Summit
5. Send the course teacher a copy of the student-generated notes, signed by the parent proctor to indicate and acknowledge that the student is requesting an assessment.
6. When it's ready, the student will only be able to take one assessment at a time, using the Assessment Mode Lockdown Browser. The student will have 8 hours to begin once it's approved and then 90 minutes to finish the 10 question assessment once it's begun.
Teachers will:
1. Reply back to the student if the request is approved for first or second attempts.
2. Have the student meet with the subject teacher for third or subsequent attempts in order to address gaps or misunderstandings in content.
To use the afternoon service WITH A PARENT PROCTOR: Available Tues-Thur 2-3pm
The parent sends an email request to proctor@classicalacademy.com containing: Student name/grade level/name of assessment and attaches a copy of student-generated notes with parent signature/time/date. The student sets a goal in Summit and requests the Content Assessment in Summit. The proctor will reply back to the email when the assessment is ready. They have 90 minutes to finish the 10 question assessment once they have begun. They may only take one assessment at a time.
We are confident that these modifications will help our students be even more successful during distance learning. Thank you for your continued partnership and support!
Dr. Stacey Perez
