October 7th - 11th

Can you believe that we are almost at the end of the first quarter?!

All students should have turned in their first work sample, to their cohort, dated in September. We will collect the next work sample at cohort conferences on October 18th & 25th. Please note that we have PSAT testing on October 16th for all Sophomores and Juniors. This will be a home day for all Freshman and Seniors. Also, CAO will be closed on October 22nd, as the entire team will be at a Summit Learning training.

Please make sure to set goals today and prepare for a great week!

MARK THE DATE - Wednesday, October 16, 2019 is the PSAT for all 10th and 11th graders

We will be giving the PSAT to all of our CAO student sophomores and juniors on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. Testing will begin at 8:00 am until approximately 12:15 pm. Please plan on arriving no later than 7:45 am.

All sophomores and juniors will be assigned specific classrooms upon arrival. The PSAT is an important testing tool. These test results will determine which of our 11th grade students will qualify as Commended Scholars and National Merit Finalists. This affords our students a number of very competitive scholarship opportunities. Additionally, it is great practice for the SAT and will give students opportunities to get college information. We believe that it is critical that each of our students is given this important test and it is fully funded by CAO.

**Freshman and Seniors will have a home study day on October 16. There will be no workshops or self directed learning center available on October 16, 2019.

OR

2) How could you use the online game, PAYBACK, to have a conversation with your parent/guardian about paying for college?

Submit to Mrs. Chatton by November 8, 2019.

Big News! Students can receive Palomar College Credit for classes at CAO!

What is high school articulation?

An articulated high school course is one in which a determination has been made that a course offered at the high school level is comparable to a specific community college course. High school students have the potential to earn college credits by taking an articulated high school class. When a student earns at least a letter grade of B or higher, high school and FREE college credit can be earned at the same time.

The Classical Academy Online program has been approved for the following articulated courses with Palomar College:

Keyboarding; a one-semester class offered zero period, equivalent to Business 165

Digital Art - Illustrator: year-long class offered third period, equivalent to GCIP 152: Digital Publishing/Illustrator I.

Keyboarding will be offered second semester, zero period, at Classical Academy Online. Students may enroll in this class by signing up on the waitlist with Mrs. Chatton. Priority will be given by grade level, starting with Seniors.

Students currently enrolled in Digital Art - Illustrator are already eligible and will be provided with information in class to sign up.

We are so excited that our caliber of classes are being recognized as college level instruction!

Need Community Service Hours?

We continually publish new community service opportunities for students. Don't leave hours until the last minute!

This year, we have an opportunity to support the Fitness Freedom Project, which provides affordable gym memberships to Veterans. By filling a two-liter plastic soda bottle with dimes, you can donate the bottle to FFP for 50 community service hours! A filled bottle is a $500 tax-deductible donation that helps Veterans in our own community. This community service opportunity is in memory of Jay Coon.
