The Parbuckling Project
Parbuckling? Well that is what is happening off of the coast of Giglio, Italy right now. On January 13, 2012 the Costa Concordia (a really big cruise ship) ran aground and sank off of the Italian coast. She has been partially submerged since then and the Parbuckling Projectis the online record of the efforts to refloat her and tow her to salvage. When she was build she cost $500 million dollars. It is costing the cruise line who owns her $400 million to recover the wreckage and she is only worth $80 million at salvage. A fascinating story.
