Color Replacement

Grade 3-5

• Create artifacts using digital learning tools and resources to demonstrate knowledge.

OBJECTIVE:

  • The Student will change the colors in a range of overall pixels.


LEARNING TARGETS:

  • I can use Adobe Photoshop CC to replace colors in an image.


DIRECTIONS:

  1. Open Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended
  2. File>Open>Navigate to your desired image>OK
  3. Image > Mode > RGB (This ensure full color mode)
  4. Edit>Preferences>General
  5. Make certain that Zoom with Scroll Wheel is checked on
  6. Layer>Duplicate Layer (Makes a duplicate of the image and places it directly over the original image)
  7. Image>Adjustments>Replace Color
  8. Select the Eyedropper Tool (I)+ to select the color desired for replacement
  9. Choose the colors by clicking the mouse
  10. Select the Fuzziness to determine the range of color replaced
  11. You may
    1. Select a Replacement Color from the Palette
    2. Adjust the color by sliding the controls for
      1. Hue
      2. Saturation
      3. Brightness
  12. Click Ok
  13. File>Save As
  14. Eventually, you may be saving your work one or both ways depending on your intentions for use of the file:
    1. PSD (Photoshop Document) will only be readable in Adobe Photoshop and is a "soft" file that you intend to further edit or adjust. This file will only be readable by an Adobe Photoshop program.
    2. JPG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is a "hard" file that you no longer intend tom edit but can use with other programs or applications (i.e. Microsoft Office, web uploads, prints, etc.)


SUBMITTED WORK:

As instructed you may be required to print the work and/or submit it electronically:

  1. Print the work in room 408
  2. Save the document to the Network Drive
    1. Open two windows of Windows Explorer
    2. Snap them to the sides of the monitor
    3. In one, navigate to your S: Drive
    4. In the other, navigate to \\blsd-fs02
    5. Drag the file from your S: Drive to the network drive


GRADING CRITERIA:

  • Appropriate filename protocol (lastname.firstname.apples)
  • The replaced item must be a clean selection (not outside the “lines”)
  • The replaced color must be clearly different than the original


LATE WORK/MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENT:

If you are absent from school or do not complete the assignment on time, you must print your work to the printer labeled PROD LAB 408. (NOTE: A point deduction may be enforced for late work not due to an excused absence.)
