OBJECTIVE:

  • This is a multi-class lesson that will combine physical education and computer classes. The student will participate in an exercise stacking six cups and will be timed in the event. The times will then be placed on a spreadsheet for analysis.

LEARNING TARGETS:

GRADES 5-7:

  • I can use a spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets) to create a spreadsheet, enter data and program basic formulas to analyze data.

GRADES 8-12:

  • I can use a spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets) to create a spreadsheet, enter data and program advanced formulas to analyze data and predict outcomes.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Watch the following video(s):
  2. Open Microsoft Excel.
  3. Complete the 6 Cup Stacking Challenge.
  4. Create a spreadsheet that defines the "6 Cup Stacking Challenge" of each of the members of the class. (SEE THE EXAMPLES POSTED BELOW)
  5. At the bottom, create formulas that define:
    1. Total
    2. Average
    3. Maximum
    4. Minimum
    5. Count
  6. Populate the spreadsheet with the accumulated data.
  7. Make certain that the Header and the Footer are posted as in the example.
  8. Make certain that your table is centered and will print gridlines.
  9. See class demonstration and example posted online
  10. You will be printing in black ink only so please refrain from the use of excess color as it does waste toner.
  11. When you are done, save your work in your S: drive under the appropriate school year and period number.
  12. See the examples posted below to compare your work against the defined model. (NOTE: Look under the Period Number for your class).
  13. Print the work in Room 408.

SUBMITTED WORK:

  • This work will be checked in class using the Check-Out Sheet (POSTED BELOW)
  • You will also upload your file to the Google Classroom

LATE WORK/MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENT:

  • If you are absent from school or do not complete the assignment on time, you must notify Mr. Lesnansky.
  • You will still need to use the Check-Out form and upload to Google Classroom.
  • NOTE: A point deduction may be enforced for late work not due to an excused absence.

FURTHER ENRICHMENT AND STUDY:

  1. Now that you have completed an analysis of our class results, do the exact same analysis for the other Physical Education Class that also participated in the events. (The data is online.)
  2. What other analyses can be created with this data?
  3. What other data can you collect?
  4. Check out www.speedstacks.com for more information about these cups.
  5. Check out http://www.thewssa.com/ for information about competitive cup stacking.
