OHIO LEARNING STANDARDS FOR TECHNOLOGY (2017):

STRAND: Design and Technology

Addresses the nature of technology to develop and improve products and systems over time to meet human/societal needs and wants through design processes.


Topic 4: Evaluate designs using functional, aesthetic and creative elements.

Grades 3-5

• Use criteria developed with guidance to evaluate a new or improved product for its functional, aesthetic and creative elements.

Grades 6-8

• Examine the progression of a product to identify how the functional, aesthetic and creative elements were applied.

Grades 9-12

• Critically evaluate a design solution at multiple points of the design process. Consider design requirements and adjust processes and outcomes as needed.


OBJECTIVE:

  • Students will watch an eight minute tutorial video defining the elements that are used to create the Google House (pictured above).


LEARNING TARGETS:

  • GRADES 5-6: I can use basic tools in the Sketch Up application to orbit an image and pan a model.
  • GRADES 7-8: I can use design tools to create a model.
  • GRADES 9-12: I can use design tools to create a model and refine its characteristics.


ACTIVITIES:

  1. Watch the YouTube video posted at the top of this page.
  2. As the video plays try to duplicate the house as it is being built.
  3. You may minimize the video or you may work with a split screen (“snapping”).
  4. When your project is finished, save it to your Google Drive by selecting the Save button.


SUBMITTED WORK:

  • This work will be submitted by:
    • Completing the Check Out Sheet (posted below) and having your project inspected by the instructor
    • Uploading a copy of the file to Google Classroom


LATE WORK/MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENT:

  • If you are absent from school or do not complete the assignment on time, you must follow the directions posted above. (NOTE: A point deduction may be enforced for late work not due to an excused absence.)


EXTRA CREDIT:

  • You may include a downloaded model from the 3D Warehouse in your piece. It MUST be appropriate to the model and to an appropriate scale


EXTRA EXTRA CREDIT:

  • You must hide the back wall of the model and show at least three pieces of furniture in the house. It must be appropriate to the model and be to scale.
