3D Printing

NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY STANDARDS (2007):

3. Research and Informational Fluency

Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Students:

plan strategies to guide inquiry.

a. locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media.

c. evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific tasks.

d. process data and report results.

OBJECTIVE:

The student will explore the premiere network of scenic webcams. This site offers a complete searchable database of interesting places and views from around the world. The award winning website (Webby Award Winner – Tourism) is viewed by fans in 192 countries and ranks among the top 1% of all websites. EarthCam.com is the world’s favorite webcam network and the EarthCam Network cameras have been seen on top news shows, including CNN’s Headline News.

LEARNING TARGETS:

  • I do understand the rules of safety regarding the operation of the Lultzbot 3D Printer.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Watch the following video:
  2. YouTube Video
  3. The Lultzbot 3D Printer is an amazing device that creates three dimensional objects by melting plastic filament in a process known as Additive Printing. This is a very safe process as long as users observe rules of common sense and safety. Failure to do so can result in a burn (just like the stovetop or oven at home). Therefore you MUST adhere to these rules in Room 408.
    1. Do NOT go behind the teacher's desk.
    2. Do NOT touch any part of the printer, even if it is not powered on.
    3. Students do NOT operate the printer. (Any models that are student created MUST be opened and printed only by the instructor.)
  4. Please open the Google Form linked below and check box that indicates that you agree with the terms of use.
  5. If you do not understand or agree you MUST get this lesson signed by both the principal and a parent/guardian.

SUBMITTED WORK:

This work should be submitted by completing the Google Doc listed below:

LATE WORK/MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENT:

If you are absent from school or do not complete the assignment on time, you must print your work to the printer labeled PROD LAB 408 or HS 408. You may still submit the Google Doc but it may not be located and graded. A printed piece will be graded. (NOTE: A point deduction may be enforced for late work not due to an excused absence.)
