Benchmark Testing

This comprehensive test is required by the district. Although the district results do not have an impact for the school or the students, I will be taking some scores from the test for their grades.

1. There are two writing prompts that require students to use evidence from the texts. Students have been taught this for years. I will be scoring these myself. The district requires me to score evaluate these myself anyway.

2. The multiple choice questions are tricky. These are questions designed to require students to dig deeply into the text and decide which answer is really the best. I find that these types of questions usually trip students up. I will give scores based on the results of all the students taking the test. I might end up curving the scores.

3. There are some questions on vocabulary. We have been discussing vocabulary all year.

Productive Struggle (Next week)

Begin the independent reading and lessons on The Monkey's Paw found here.

The steps are laid out for you.

I will be taking the grade from the second try for each assessment.

I will also be reading through your close read responses to see where you are struggling.

We will be discussing parts of the story as lecture or group work, but you need to know the story.
