Objectives:

Students will watch the movie Searching for Bobby Fischer and be able to discuss the film using the academic vocabulary we have studied the past two days.

Students will start to understand the motivations of each character so they can discuss characterization.

Students will fill in the charts that I have given them.

Agenda:

Watch the movie and discuss as we go. (I am good at ruining their movie watching experience. I pause and talk through the whole thing!)

Standards:

CC.8.R.L.3 Key Ideas and Details: Analyze how particular lines of dialogue or incidents in a story or drama propel the action, reveal aspects of a character, or provoke a decision

CC.8.L.6 Vocabulary Acquisition and Use: Acquire and use accurately grade-appropriate general academic and domain-specific words and phrases; gather vocabulary knowledge when considering a word or phrase important to comprehension or expression.

CC.8.R.L.6 Craft and Structure: Analyze how differences in the points of view of the characters and the audience or reader (e.g., created through the use of dramatic irony) create such effects as suspense or humor.
