Week of December 19 - December 21

Post date: Dec 19, 2016 12:16:55 PM

All the resources you will need are on the Horror Unit page.

Monday 12/12 (Day: C)

Warm-up

Tell me something good orally.

1. Finish your suspense rough draft

If you did not do this yet, take this quick survey.

Take a look at the results if you would like to see what others thought.

If you need to, watch The Tell Tale Heart on your own using headphones.

We are not reading Monkey's Paw until I am satisfied that you have enough notes for the

comparison essay on which version of The Tell Tale Heart creates suspense better.

1. View this slideshow I made about how to organize your thoughts.

2. Use this Google Classroom sheet to organize your notes somehow.

Section 1 (ugly, but useful version) or you can use the slideshow I made.

Section 2 (ugly, but useful version) or you can use the slideshow I made.

Section 3 (ugly, but useful version) or you can use the slideshow I made.

3. Write a rough draft of the comparison essay on this Google Classroom sheet.

Here is what I am looking for:

Write a rough draft of your comparison essay.

        • I am not looking for perfect spelling and grammar.
        • I am not looking for perfect organization.
        • I am looking to see that you have enough details to explain which version is better at creating suspense.
        • I am looking for HOW you decided to chunk your discussion of the two versions based on the slideshow.

How I will grade this:

        1. Did you hand this in on-time?
        2. Is this a complete or mostly complete essay?
        3. Did you use evidence from the two pieces?
        4. A good grade on this rough draft means I believe you have used the lessons I provided, and your essay has the potential to be good.
        5. A poor grade on this rough draft means you probably don’t know the two versions as well as you should, and your essay could receive a low grade.

2. Read about Frankenstein

- Read this Informational text

- Explain the origins of the Frankenstein monster here.

3. Vocabulary.com (20 minutes)Monkey's Paw Vocabulary.com list due by December 21. I am tracking your performance! (See dates at top of column.)

Small Group: The goal of students working in groups this week is to promote discussion. Through each group activity, students should be coming to their own conclusions about the techniques used in the horror genre which create suspense. The grade a group gets is small if anything at all.
