Homework:

Sections 2 & 3 should be done Completing and Vocab in Context tomorrow

Objective: The main goal for today is to help students understand the requirements of the essay they will be writing this week. By the end of today, they should understand what a 5 paragraph essay on the theme of a story looks like. We will practice outlining an essay by looking at a short film. From there, the students will be on their own to use the highlighting we created last week.


Warm-up:

1. Tell Me Something Good

2. Tell me the theme of Nuggets

Lesson:

Group Presentations:

Your group is responsible for your section of the video.

(Group 1 does the first time the bird tries the nugget, etc.)

Be ready to present how the writer used plot, color, and sound IN YOUR SEGMENT

Outline an essay:

In your Google Classroom, open the assignment "Outline of Essay on Nuggets."

Use phrases or sentences to show me examples from the video

Demonstrate that you COULD write an essay on how the artist uses plot, color, and sound to convey a message.

Due by the end of class Wednesday.

Small Group: Students are seated in groups this week so I can sit down with them as they work together.

Personal Narrative

CC.8.R.I.5 Craft and Structure: Analyze in detail the structure of a specific paragraph in a text, including the role of particular sentences in developing and refining a key concept.

Vocabulary Practice All Classes Each student now has a Vocabulary.com account. Over the next few weeks, I will be using this site more. I can set up lists from the literature we study, or the site can lead them through a series of increasingly more difficult words.
