Sections 2 and 3 Objectives

Students will begin to understand the basic terminology, structure, and process for writing an argumentative essay.

Agenda:

Tell me something good

Introduce first writing topic and brainstorm on your own.

Read the articles and take notes on both positions.

Begin to write a draft of the essay.

Standards:

CC.8.W.1 Text Types and Purposes: Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

Section 1 Objectives:

Students will be introduced to argumentative writing by debating.

Students will know which topic they will be be arguing and how the debates will function.

Agenda:

Hand out books and write names on the side.

Read pages 2 and 10

Assign groups and the topics and scoring

Sample debate

If there is time, we will start reading in the book.

Section 1: Review words for unit 6 vocabulary- HWK: Pictionaries
