IEP Team Requirements

The most recent IEP Team Meeting Notice:

  • Includes the purpose, time and place of meeting and who will attend;

  • Informed the parent they may invite other individuals who have knowledge or special expertise regarding the child;

  • Informed the parent that the team may proceed with the meeting if the district is unable to convince the parent that they should attend. In this case, the public agency must keep a record of its attempts to arrange a mutually agreed upon time and place.

  • Informed the parent of individual to contact before meeting to provide information if they are unable to attend

Required Members for an IEP meeting:

    • At least one regular education teacher of the child, if the child is or may be participating in the regular education environment (lunch, and recess are considered regular education times);

    • At least one special education teacher or special education provider of the child;

    • A district representative (who may be another member of the team), who is:

        • Qualified to provide, or supervise the provision of, specially designed instruction;

        • Knowledgeable about the general education curriculum;

        • Knowledgeable about district resources; and

        • Authorized to commit district resources and ensure that services set out in the IEP will be provided;

    • An individual (who may be another member of the team) who is knowledgeable about the child’s disability and who can interpret the instructional implications of the evaluation results.

    • An individual knowledgeable about the placement options.
