Charter Schools

Currently two types of charter schools exist in Oregon: virtual and in building. On July 1, 2011 HB 2299 was enacted requiring school districts with public charter schools to identify, locate, and evaluate students who may need special education services, even if those students do not reside in the district.

City View Charter School is a brick and mortar school that is sponsored by the Hillsboro School District. Identification, evaluation, and services are provided by Hillsboro School District (HSD) special education staff. HSD does not sponsor a virtual charter school at this time. Enrollment in a Charter School(City View) would have an IEP and the same rules and regulations apply for the IEP and Eligibility process and enrollment in the charter school is not considered a “change in placement.”

Students who are attending a charter school outside of HSD boundaries will be served by the sponsoring school district where the charter school is located. Questions should be referred to the administrator(s) of the attending charter school and/or to a Student Services administrator.

The district in which the charter school is located, must serve children with disabilities attending the charter school in the same manner as it serves children with disabilities in its other schools, including providing supplementary and related services on site at the charter school to the same extent as it provides those services on-site at its other schools.
