Home Instruction (HSD)
23-24 NEW GUIDANCE FOR HOME INSTRUCTION:
Protocol for Home Instruction - links within.
Criteria:
Health/Medical Need for Home Instruction: For doctor recommendation for home instruction, contact Richelle Hall in Student Services (503-844-1441). Students needing home instruction due to health/medical reasons must have a medical statement that specifically states that it is deemed medically necessary for the student to receive home instruction for at least 20 consecutive school days and indicates an approximate end date. Attach this to the Home Instruction Request Form.
A new medical statement is necessary if the home instruction needs to be continued beyond the original requested time.
Home Instruction is now considered "Abbreviated Day" as defined by SB 819. All students approved for Home instruction are required to have an Abbreviated Day Medical Note (link) or an Abbreviated Day Packet for submission (Protocol).
Special Education Student Placement: IEP Team or Counselor (504) requests for home instruction as a placement option for a student must be processed and approved through an HSD Director.
Contact your Support Specialist or Student Services administrator
Hold an IEP meeting to change placement, document team decisions in meeting minutes and on the Prior Written Notice of Special Education Action. "Home Instruction" must be selected (with a reason) on the placement page if this is the team's decision.
Revise the IEP as needed
Expulsion: The Hillsboro School District (HSD) offers home instruction as an alternative option for expulsion. Once the expulsion hearing has taken place contact Richelle Hall (503-844-1441) in Student Services to proceed with this option.
