Finally, they listened to us!!!

¡Por fin nos han escuchado!

Finally, and by a huge popular (and relentless) request, the classic three-split screen opening titles have come back to our TV sets, or computers...

The original "Dallas" series featured the main cast "in alphabetical order" and three different and (mostly) glamorous, distinctive positions during the first eleven years of its airing on US´s CBS. When TNT´s continuation started, a majority of fans complained about the simplicity and "sobriety" of the new titles (which, also, were imaginative and modern in their own way).

But the missing "faces" of the Ewings were something sorely missed because they used to set the viewers´ attitude towards the show just like the music theme and the Southfork and Dallas shots did. You had to watch the whole opening (and the appealing teasers / recaps) to get ready for what was to come after that. Now we have those titles, and even this season´s new Argentinian star Juan Pablo Di Pace is in them! Too bad that our dear old Ken Kercheval has been credited as a mere "guest star", the same status he had in the first full season of the original "Dallas".

Now let´s enjoy this third season of the new "Dallas" (the first one without late Larry Hagman), which will be decisive for the future of the series. Although in US the second season had a reasonably steady average rating, climaxing in the episode "JR´s Masterpiece", the response abroad has been far from enthusiastic, especially in old Europe. If Jock Ewing / Jim Davis´ death provided the classic show ten plus years of TV life, let´s wish at least a couple of more years to enjoy with his grand-children John Ross and Christopher, and their many wives and lovers. Oh and please, let Bobby and Sue Ellen stay around them.

Por fin, y por multitudinaria (e insistente) petición popular, la clásica cabecera dividida en tres ha regresado a nuestras pantallas de TV, o de nuestros ordenadores...

La serie original de "Dallas" presentaba a su reparto principal "en orden alfabético" y en tres imágenes distintas y (casi siempre) glamurosas, durante los once primeros años de su andadura en la cadena estadounidense CBS. Cuando se estrenó la secuela de TNT, la mayoría de fans nos quejamos de la simplicidad y "sobriedad" de la nueva cabecera (que, por otra parte, también era imaginativa y moderna).

Pero echábamos de menos los rostros de los Ewing porque solían establecer la actitud del televidente hacia la serie, del mismo modo que su sintonía y los planos del rancho Southfork y Dallas. Era una "obligación" ver completos los títulos iniciales (y los muy interesantes avances o previos) para prepararse para lo que vendría después. Ahora ya tenemos esos títulos e incluso el nuevo actor de la temporada, el argentino Juan Pablo Di Pace, aparece en ellos...Lástima que nuestro querido Ken Kercheval se haya quedado sólo con el crédito de "actor invitado", el mismo que ostentaba en la primera etapa de la serie original.

Ahora, a disfrutar con esta tercera temporada de la nueva "Dallas" (primera sin el fallecido Larry Hagman), decisiva para el futuro de la serie. Aunque en EEUU la segunda temporada obtuvo una audiencia media razonablemente buena, que culminó en el episodio "La obra maestra de JR", la respuesta en el resto del mundo ha sido mucho menos entusiasta, especialmente en la vieja Europa. Si la muerte de Jock Ewing / Jim Davis dio a la serie clásica diez años más de vida televisiva, esperemos que la nueva dure al menos un par de años más, y así pasárnoslo en grande con sus nietos John Ross y Christopher, y sus muchas esposas y amantes...Ah, y que Bobby y Sue Ellen sigan cerca de ellos...
