MICHELE LEE

NACIDA EL 24 DE JUNIO DE 1942 EN LOS ANGELES, hija del maquillador JACK DUSICK, creció en una atmósfera de artistas. Solía llevar los periódicos de la industria junto con sus libros de matemáticas. Una tarde, su padre le enseñó un anuncio del Daily Variety que decía: "Los actores deben saber cantar, los cantantes bailar y los bailarines, actuar." Pensó que sería una buena experiencia para ella asistir a una prueba y acostumbrarse a que le cerrasen la puerta en las narices, que, según él, "también era una parte importante de la profesión."

Su sorpresa fue mayúscula cuando Michele volvió a casa con el papel. La obra era VINTAGE 60 y aquello fue el comienzo de la carrera teatral de Michele. BRAVO GIOVANNI, con la estrella de la ópera del Metropolitan Cesare Siepe, y 2 años en HOW TO SUCCEED con ROBERT MORSE, siguieron al cabo de un tiempo. Luego protagonizó la versión para cine, retitulada CÓMO TRIUNFAR SIN DAR GOLPE, y obtuvo diversos premios por su actuación. Su gran triunfo en HOW TO SUCCEED le abrió más puertas, le proporcionó un contrato de grabación con Columbia Records y le hizo entrar en el circuito de clubes.

Michele ha aparecido en muchos espectáculos musicales y ha hecho especiales con DICK VAN DYKE, PERRY COMO y FRED ASTAIRE, entre otros, y fue colaboradora habitual de KRAFT MUSIC HALL. Protagonizó AHÍ VA ESE BÓLIDO de Disney, la película más taquillera del año, y THE COMIC, de CARL REINER, para la Columbia, con DICK VAN DYKE, ahora se ha convertido en un clásico.

Cuando a Michele le ofrecieron SEESAW en Broadway (adaptación musical de TWO FOR THE SEESAW) le pareció casi un imposible porque creía que su lugar estaba en Hollywood con su marido el actor JAMES FARENTINO y su hijo David. Jim tomó la decisión por ella diciendo "nos mudaremos a Nueva York". El éxito de Michele en la obra fue total y obtuvo el Drama Desk Award, el Outer Critics Award, el Circle Award y fue candidata al TONY como mejor actriz de musical.

Después de aquel último plano cómplice en el final de K.L., MICHELE ha dedicado su carrera a escribir, producir, dirigir y actuar en obras de teatro y programas de TV. En 1997 se reunió con el reparto de la serie para una miniserie especial, KL: Back To The Cul-de-sac, en 1998 recibió una estrella en el famoso Hollywood Walk of Fame y el año pasado fue propuesta al premio TONY por la obra THE TALE OF THE ALLERGIST´S WIFE.

Entre las películas de TV que ha protagonizado, destacan EL GENIO, YO Y EL ESCÁNDALO, ASESINATO EN SHADOW MOUNTAIN, y sendas colaboraciones en la serie WILL & GRACE y en la película Y ENTONCES LLEGÓ ELLA. Poseedora de una profunda y potente voz, ha grabado varios discos y su interpretación de KAREN le valió una propuesta para los EMMY como mejor actriz protagonista de serie. En su currículum figuran también 3 SODA y otra nominación para los TONY en 1968. En lo personal, lleva 15 años casada con FRED RAPPAPORT y tiene un hijo de su anterior marido, el actor JAMES FARENTINO.

BORN ON JUNE 24th, 1942, the daughter of makeup artists JACK DUSICK, grew up in a show business atmosphere. It wasn't unusual to read the trade papers along with her math books. One afternoon her father showed her an ad in the Daily Variety that read "ACTORS MUST SING, SINGERS MUST DANCE, DANCERS MUST ACT," he thought it would be a good experience to try an audition and become accustom to having doors close in her face, which as he put it is, "also very much a part of the business."

He was in shock when MICHELE came home and had gotten the job. The show was VINTAGE 60 and that was the start of MICHELE's stage career. BRAVO GIOVANNI with Metropolitan opera star, Cesare Siepe and two years in HOW TO SUCCEED... with ROBERT MORSE soon followed. She went on to do the movie of HOW TO SUCCEED, winning several awards for her performance. Her great success with this movie of course opened up a few more doors, a recording contract with Columbia Records and the nightclub circuit.

MICHELE has appeared on every major Variety show and has done specials with Dick Van Dyke, Don Rickles, Carroll O'Conner, Perry Como, Fred Astaire, Glen Campbell, and appeared regularly on KRAFT MUSIC HALL. She starred in Disney's THE LOVE BUG which was the highest grossing picture of the year and Carl Reiner's THE COMIC for Columbia with DICK VAN DYKE, and has now become a classic.

When MICHELE was offered SEESAW on Broadway, (the musical adaption of TWO FOR THE SEESAW), it seemed almost an impossibility because she felt her place was in Hollywood with her then husband, actor JAMES FARENTINO and their son DAVID. Jim made the decision for her saying "we'll move to New York." MICHELE was a tremendous success in the show winning the Drama Desk Award, The Outer Critics Award, The circle Award and was nominated for a Tony Award for best actress in a musical.

After that tongue-in-cheek last shot at the end of K.L., MICHELE has devoted her career to write, produce, direct and act in stage plays and TV shows. In 1997 she re-united with the series´ cast for a special mini-series, KL: BACK TO THE CUL-DE-SAC in 1998 she received a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 2001 she was nominated for the TONY award for the play THE TALE OF THE ALLERGIST´S WIFE.

Among the movies she has starred in, outstand COLOR ME PERFECT, SCANDALOUS ME, A MURDER ON SHADOW MOUNTAIN, and two guest stints on the show WILL & GRACE and the big-screen movie ALONG CAME POLLY. She has a deep, powerful voice and recorded several records, and her performance of KAREN earned her an EMMY nomination as best actress in a series. She also won 3 SODA´s and another TONY proposal in 1968. Personally, she has been married to FRED RAPPAPORT since 1987 and has a son born from her previous marriage to actor JAMES FARENTINO.
