1 - changing of the guard

June 13, 2012: "Dallas" returned to the TV screens, this time on TNT, with a 1-hour special Pilot whose best scene, with no doubt, was the one with Bobby Ewing (once again played by Patrick Duffy) visiting a catatonic J.R. (of course, played by Larry Hagman again, 21 years later after their last "Dallas" episode!!) at his nursery home and tells him he doesn´t want their sons John Ross (Josh Henderson) and Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe) to be "like them". Too late, good ol´ Bobby, because the fight has just started, including one (for now, secret) member of the Barnes family (watch out, Christopher!! Your wife Rebecca (Julie Gonzalo) is not who she says to be!!). This was the first of, until now, 25 new "Dallas" episodes than also include Linda Gray as Sue Ellen and, episodically (and, in some cases, just as cameo appearances...) Ken Kercheval as Cliff Barnes, Steve Kanaly as Ray Krebbs, Charlene Tilton as Lucy Ewing, Ted Shackelford as Gary Ewing, Joan Van Ark as Val Ewing, Audrey Landers as Afton Cooper, Deborah Shelton as Mandy Winger and Cathy Podewell as Cally Ewing. What about Pam...? We had to wait until episode 25 to know what REALLY had happened to her!!! And also to J.R., who had to be killed in episode 17 due to Larry Hagman´s passing.

17 de junio de 2012: "Dallas" regresó a las pantallas de TV, esta vez en el canal TNT, con un Piloto especial de una hora de duración cuya mejor escena, sin duda, fue de Bobby Ewing (de nuevo interpretado por Patrick Duffy) visitando a un catatónico J.R. (por supuesto, encarnado por Larry Hagman, 21 años después de su último episodio de "Dallas") en la residencia geriátrica en la que estaba ingresado, y le dice que no quiere que sus hijos John Ross (Josh Henderson) y Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe) sean "como ellos". Demasiado tarde, Bobby, porque la lucha acaba de empezar, e incluye a un (por ahora, secreto) miembro de la familia Barnes (cuidado, Christopher: tu mujer Rebecca (Julie Gonzalo) no es quien afirma ser...). Este fue el primero de, hasta ahora, 25 nuevos episodios de "Dallas" que también incluyen a Linda Gray como Sue Ellen y, episódicamente (y en algunos casos, como meros cameos...) a Ken Kercheval como Cliff Barnes, Steve Kanaly como Ray Krebbs, Charlene Tilton como Lucy Ewing, Ted Shackelford como Gary Ewing, Joan Van Ark como Val Ewing, Audrey Landers como Afton Cooper, Deborah Shelton como Mandy Winger y Cathy Podewell como Cally Ewing. ¿Y dónde está Pam...? The director and DOP did a superb work and somehow it´s like if now, the old "Dallas" looked like a TV series version of a current family, who really look like real people!! (Well, the two young´ns look over-average, so to say!!). I wonder what Leonard Katzman the director would think about this way of filming Southfork...Don´t you get the feeling that you can just walk into it, through the never-seen outside stairs or the front door or...Oh and, are there really so many trees around Southfork as we saw? Because I can only remember the woods seen in the Dream Season...Most of the scenes seemed to have been re-written and improved a lot if we read the initial draft, and luck we lost the homemade movies! Something tells me that the younger generation scenes didn´t have that re-writing and maybe that´s the only bad thing I can say about it, because the four actors are very enthusiastic and energetic in their parts, especially (a bit hammed up) Henderson and a very-attractive-though-weird Jordana. I get the feeling that Julie Gonzalo was cast against type because they really wanted someone THAT sweet for some specific reason, let´s see how it all turns out...I hope that Metcalfe improves a little bit and watches the old "Dallas" so he can learn through the Duffster himself...

The "classic" actors have big chemistry and I really hope that our dear Larry Hagman gets another Emmy nomination this time around (is there any factible way of starting to lobby for him?). About all the other things, poor Charlene and Steve!! And how I missed the shots of the Dallas buildings, at least to know how the Ewing one looks today!! My opinion about these 2 episodes is this: how did they manage to get me addicted so soon if I didn´t like the (scripted) reunions? (Am I answering myself?) On the other side, I missed Pam and Victoria big time, but that´s life, nobody´s perfect. I can´t help wishing she will show up sooner or later, but if she doesn´t, it will be her right of choice. And I will always have my fanfic "Ewing Empire", where there is no Evil Ann and she is the true matriarch side by side with Bobby. And speaking of evilness and devil, can Marta del Sol (which means "of the sun" in Spanish) be a reincarnated Angelica Nero?

El realizador y el director de fotografía han realizado un trabajo soberbio y, de alguna manera, es como si ahora, la antigua "Dallas" pareciera la versión televisiva de una familia actual, que tiene el aspecto de personas reales (bueno, los dos chicos tienen un "look" por encima de la media, por así decirlo). Me pregunto qué habría pensado Leonard Katzman el director sobre esta forma de filmar Southfork...¿No tenéis la impresión de que podéis entrar en él por las escaleras exteriores nunca vistas anteriormente? Ah, ¿y de verdad hay tantos árboles alrededor de Southfork como parece? Porque sólo recuerdo haber visto los bosques en la Etapa-Sueño...Casi todas las escenas parecen haberse reescrito y mejorado mucho si leemos el primer borrador del guión, y suerte que descartaron la escena de las películas caseras. Algo me dice que la parte con la joven generación no fue sometida a dicha revisión y tal vez sea lo único negativo que pueda decir sobre ello, porque los cuatro actores ofrecen actuaciones dinámicas y llenas de entusiasmo, especialmente (el algo sobreactuado) Henderson y una muy atractiva, aunque algo rara, Jordana. Me parece que eligieron a Julie Gonzalo contra todo pronóstico porque iban tras una actriz ASÍ de dulce por un motivo concreto, a ver cómo acaba resultando todo...Espero que Metcalfe mejore un poco y repase la antigua "Dallas" para aprender del mismo Duffy...

Los actores "clásicos" siguen teniendo mucha química y deseo de verdad que nuestro querido Larry Hagman reciba otra nominación para los Emmy esta vez (¿hay alguna forma de empezar a promocionar su candidatura?). En cuanto a todo lo demás, pobres Charlene y Steve...Y cómo he echado de menos los planos de los edificios de Dallas, al menos para saber qué aspecto tiene hoy el de los Ewing. Mi opinión de estos dos episodios se puede resumir así: ¿cómo han conseguido engancharme tan pronto si no me gustaron nada las dos reuniones anteriores? (¿Me estoy respondiendo a mí mismo?) Por otro lado, eché mucho de menos a Pam y a Victoria, pero así es la vida, nadie es perfecto. No puedo evitar desear que aparezca más tarde o más temprano, pero si no es así, la elección es toda suya. Y siempre tendré mi fanfic "Imperio Ewing", donde no existe Ann "la perversa" y Pam es la auténtica matriarca junto con Bobby. Y hablando de perversas, ¿podría ser Marta del Sol una reencarnación de Angelica Nero?
