WILLIAM DEVANE

WILLIAM DEVANE NACIÓ EL 5 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1940 EN ALBANY, N.Y., y fue allí donde empezó a interesarse por la actuación a través de la actividad teatral del vecindario. A continuación cursó estudios en la American Academy of Dramatic Arts de Nueva York y realizó su debut profesional como un portador de lanza cobrando 10 dólares a la semana, en THE MERCHANT OF VENICE. Hacia 1971, ofreció al público de N.Y. una actuación alabada por la crítica en el nuevo montaje para Broadway de ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST.

El público de TV aún recuerda su carismático retrato de John F. Kennedy en LOS MISILES DE OCTUBRE (foto inferior izquierda), por el que recibió una propuesta para los EMMY en 1975. En 1976 fue nuevamente candidato para el Emmy por su papel de John Henry Faulk en FEAR ON TRIAL. Otros papeles notables para TV incluyen al Sargento Milt Warden en la miniserie DE AQUÍ A LA ETERNIDAD (foto superior, con NATALIE WOOD). Repitió este papel en la serie que siguió: FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, THE WAR YEARS. Devane también protagonizó una serie de películas para TV, entre ellas RED FLAG, LA OTRA VÍCTIMA, JANE DOE, THE PREPPIE MURDERS y ASESINATO EN BOSTON.

BILL DEVANE prosiguió su activa y prolija carrera con otras series (como PHENOM, THE MONROES, LOS TURK, LOIS Y CLARK, EL ALA OESTE DE LA CASA BLANCA, STARGATE, 24 o CRUMBS) y películas para la pantalla grande (PAYBACK, AIR FORCE ONE, SPACE COWBOYS O EL HOMBRE SIN SOMBRA).

Ganador de 3 SODA y nominado al GOLDEN GLOBE por su papel de GREG, asimismo ha recibido otras 2 propuestas para el EMMY por otros papeles. Actualmente compagina su profesión con la actividad de restaurador y su afición por el polo. Lleva casado 50 años con la misma mujer y es padre de 2 hijos.

Fue un plano sencillo. No hay muchos actores que puedan conseguir un material así y tampoco hay muchos que puedan interpretarlo...”

WILLIAM DEVANE WAS BORN IN ALBANY, NY, ON SEPTEMBER 5, 1940, and it was there that he first became interested in acting, via neighborhood theatre work. He went on to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and made his professional debut as a $10-a-week spear carrier in THE MERCHANT OF VENICE. In 1971, he was giving New York audiences a critically acclaimed performance in the Broadway revival production of ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST.

Television audiences still remember his charismatic portrayal of John F. Kennedy in THE MISSILES OF OCTOBER (photo no. 3), for which he received an EMMY Award nomination in 1975. He received another EMMY nomination in 1976 for his portrayal of John Henry Faulk in FEAR ON TRIAL. His other notable television roles include Sgt. Milt Warden in the mini-series FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (photo no. 2 with NATALIE WOOD. He repeated this role in the series that followed: FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, THE WAR YEARS. Devane also starred in a number of other television movies, including RED FLAG, THE OTHER VICTIM, JANE DOE, THE PREPPIE MURDERS and MURDER C.O.D.

Devane has worked with an illustrious group of actors in feature films, including DUSTIN HOFFMAN and Sir LAURENCE OLIVIER in MARATHON MAN (photo no. 4), and VANESSA REDGRAVE in YANKS. He also worked with the legendary ALFRED HITCHCOCK in the director's final film, FAMILY PLOT (photo no. 5). In addition, Devane has starred in the films THE BAD NEWS BEARS IN BREAKING TRAINING, ROLLING THUNDER, THE DARK, REPORT TO THE COMMISSIONER, VITAL SIGNS and TESTAMENT, with JANE ALEXANDER.

He currently alternates his job with the activity of restaurateur and his polo hobby. He has been married to the same woman for 50 years and he ¡s the father of two sons.

My favorite moment in television was at the end of LAURA’s death when I was watching her videotape (above photo, from episode NOISES EVERYWHERE Part 2). It was a single shot. Not a lot of guys can get that material and not a lot can play it..."
