In division one of the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League, Topspin A are favourites to retain the title after they thrashed York RI B 10-0. Martin Lowe was on top form for Coneysthorpe A as they edged a close encounter with Shiyi Ling B 6-4 for whom Ryan Hood played well to pick up two wins. A maximum from Bryan Birkbeck could not prevent Shiyi Ling A slipping to a 6-4 defeat against Clarence A and Topspin B beat a depleted Coneysthorpe B 7-3. In a tense relegation battle, a fine treble from Ian Hilton helped Bootham A to share the spoils with rivals York RI C 5-5 whilst University A and Shiyi Ling A shared the spoils in a 5-5 draw with an unbeaten effort from Jake Clarke the highlight.
The top two teams in the second division met and in a superb match and it was Clarence B who emerged triumphant with a 6-4 win, clinching the final doubles 17-15 in the fifth end. Mike Connolly and Ed Buck were undefeated as University B crushed Clarence C 9-1 and Sam Crutchley excelled as Wigginton B cruised to an 8-2 victory over Shepherds A. Josh Bramley was too good as York RI E beat Ryedale A 7-3. It took a season’s best performance from Mike Cooper for Bootham B to see off a plucky Clarence D 6-4 whilst University B and University B drew 5-5 with a maximum from Mike Connolly the highlight.
In the third division, leaders Shiyi Ling C could only field two players and were thrashed 9-1 by a strong University C team. York RI F had Marcin Ziolek to thank as his treble underpinned a 7-3 victory over Shepherds B whilst despite three wins from Christophe Bauer, Clarence E prevailed 6-4 against Wigginton B. Ryedale B beat a depleted York RI G 7-3 and a fine treble from veteran Jim Stevenson was not enough to prevent BT B suffering a 6-4 reversal against Clarence F. Despite a superb effort from Rishav Bhattacharyya, an understrength University C were defeated 6-4 by Wigginton C.
In the fourth division Wigginton D remain top after Tony Fairburn steered them to a 6-4 victory over the battling D team and a treble from Dom Horsley was the highlight as York RI H and Clarence G fought out a 5-5 draw. A maximum from James Barton could not prevent Clarence I slipping to a 6-4 to an improving Topspin D whilst Shiyi Ling E thrashed a depleted Clarence J 9-1. Mike Belton and Graham Warriner recorded braces for Clarence H but this were matched by Nigel Baker and Steve Webster for Shepherds C as both teams had to settle for a 5-5 draw.

In division one of the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League, Joe Wright was in inspired form as Shiyi Ling A earned an excellent 5-5 draw with leaders Topspin A. York RI A remain in second placed as Filip Wojtkowiak and Paul Robertson starred in an 8-2 victory over Topspin B whilst Aidan Ranftler and John Farmery were unbeaten as Clarence A cruised to an 8-2 victory over York RI C. University A comfortably saw-off Bootham A 9-1 and a maximum haul for Ben Lockyer was the highlight as Shiyi Ling B beat York RI B 8-2.
In division two, Mark Blackburn excelled as York RI D recorded an 8-2 win against Clarence C and a fine treble from skipper John Temple proved decisive as Strensall surprised York RI E, earning a valuable 6-4 win. Leaders Clarence B whitewashed Topspin C 10-0 and three wins from Michael Connolly made the difference as University B edged out Shepherds A 6-4. Stephen Tempe and Pat Swindell were too good as Ryedale A beat Clarence D 8-2.
In the third division Shiyi Ling C continue to dominate as Lewis Harrison and Gary Tranter starred in the 9-1 thrashing of Clarence F whilst three wins from Rich Bayliss was the highlight as Wigginton C beat Shepherds B 7-3. Wigginton B and BT A shared the spoils in a 5-5 draw whilst Alec Hodgson and Ed Wardman were undefeated as Ryedale B recorded a 7-3 win over BT B. Marcin Ziolek led the way as York RI F eased to a 7-3 triumph over Clarence E whilst Hugo Spark and Rishav Bhattacharyya recorded maximums as University C thumped York RI G 9-1.
Fourth division leaders Shiyi Ling D beat York RI H 8-2 with Tom Walsh and Adrian Church in fine form whilst Shiyi Ling E played superbly to crush Shepherds C 10-0 with Brian Bannister, Rob Sorley and Craig Munnerley all unstoppable on the night. Debbie Yang and Daniel Cox contributed three wins each to help University C to an 8-2 victory over Clarence I and Leszek Kozak excelled as Wigginton E beat Clarence G 7-3. Tony Fairbairn and Steve Cameron steered Wigginton D to a 9-1 win against Clarence H whilst Jay Taylor and John Wooldridge were unbeaten for Topspin D in an 8-2 victory over Clarence J.

Champions Topspin A opened up an eight-point lead in the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League after they thrashed Shiyi Ling B 10-0. A fine treble from Martin Lowe could not prevent Coneysthorpe A suffering a 6-4 reversal against York RI A whilst Mikey Arnold and Joe Wright led the way as Shiyi Ling A walloped bottom team York RI C 9-1. A treble from student Jason Tang was the highlight as University A and Clarence A shared the spoils in a 5-5 draw. Three wins from Sammy Kelly provided decisive as Topspin B saw off a battling Bootham A 6-4 with veteran Joe Suchecki picking up a valuable brace for Bootham including an excellent win over Nathan Taylor.
In division two, Gary Bunce inflicted the first defeat of the season on Alfie Potter although champions-elect Clarence B still prevailed 6-4 against Clarence C with Graham Hatfield unbeaten. York RI D moved into pole position for the playoff spot as Mark Blackburn steered them to a 7-3 win over third placed Wigginton A and Dave Hough excelled as Strensall re-ignited their season with a superb 8-2 victory over rivals Clarence D. A maximum from John Flintoft made the difference as Ryedale A beat Shepherds A 6-4 whilst Bootham B and University B ended honours even in a 5-5 draw with Frank Feng undefeated for the students.
Shiyi Ling C have a seemingly unassailable lead in the third division after they whitewashed Ryedale B 10-0 and York RI F look secure in second place after a routine 7-3 victory over BT A. A treble from Christophe Bauer helped Wigginton C edge out York RI G 6-4 in a tight encounter. There was no joy for the bottom two teams with relegation now looking certain as Wigginton C derailed York RI G 10-0 and University C inflicted the same punishment on BT B.
In the fourth division, Leszek Kozak was on top form as Wigginton E earned an excellent 5-5 draw with leaders Shiyi Ling D whilst Wigginton D remain in second place after a 7-3 win over Shepherds C. Russ Scott starred at Clarence G beat Clarence H 7-3 whilst University D thrashed Clarence J 9-1. Maxi Piller and Jay Taylor were untroubled as Topspin D crushed Shiyi Ling E 9-1 and Clarence I edged a tight encounter with York RI H 6-4.
The annual York closed championships are being held on the 1st and 2nd February at the Railway Institute, spectators are most welcome.

The title race in the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League was thrown wide open as leaders Topspin A suffered a 7-3 reversal against a strong Coneysthorpe A team. Ashley Hodgson, Martin Lowe and Calum Goodwin all contributed two wins for Coneysthorpe with Rob Owen responding in kind for Topspin. York RI A took full advantage to move within two points of the top as Filip Wojtkowiak and Richard Moss excelled in a 9-1 thrashing of Shiyi Ling A. Despite a treble from Joel Wright, York RI C picked up valuable points as they held Coneysthorpe B to a 5-5 draw with Richard McCarthy bagging a brace for Railway. Three wins from Sammy Kelly made the difference as Topspin B edged a close encounter with York RI B 6-4 and Ishan Bairoliya was on top form as University A defeated Shiyi Ling B 7-3. Bootham B slumped to a 9-1 defeat against Clarence A with John Farmery and Aidan Ranftler untroubled.
York RI D moved upto second place in Division two with Mark Blackburn, Alberto Nidasio and Mike Robinson all in superb form as they whitewashed Shepherds A 10-0. Youngster Josh Bramley was too good as York RI E secured an excellent 6-4 victory over Wigginton A whilst leaders Clarence B had Graham Hatfield and Mick Kenyon to thank as they beat University B 8-2. Simon Prins and Dave Hough each won two as Strensall battled to a creditable 5-5 draw with Ryedale A whilst Bootham B defeated a two-man Topspin C 8-2. In a close mid-table battle Bootham B and Shepherds A shared the spoils in a 5-5 draw with braces from Richard Ingleby and Richard Harrison matched by Ian Williams and Will Beedham whilst Gary Bunce was untroubled as Clarence C dispatched their D team 7-3.
The top two teams in the third division met in a fierce clash at York RI and it took an unbeaten effort from Dave Smith to allow leaders Shiyi Ling C to snatch a 5-5 draw against York RI F. Three wins from Naz Hosseinian proved decisive as Wigginton C beat Clarence F 6-4 whilst Clarence E whitewashed BT B 10-0. A treble from Hugo Spark could not prevent University C going down 6-4 to Ryedale B. Maximums from Gary Neads and Chris Hutchinson allowed Shepherds B to post an 8-2 win over BT B and Dave Smith did the damage once again as Shiyi Ling C secured an 8-2 victory over University C. Three wins from Chris McLuskie was the highlight as BT A edged a close encounter with York RI G 6-4 with Railways Alex Gresswell picking up a notable victory over the experienced Howard Broadbent.
In the fourth division, leaders Shiyi Ling D whitewashed a depleted Clarence J and James Barton was undefeated as his Clarence I drew 5-5 against Shiyi Ling E. Nigel Baker was untroubled as Shepherds C beat York RI H 7-3 whilst Clarence H and Wigginton E ended honours even in a 5-5 draw. A treble from student Rishav Bhattacharyya was key as University D recorded a surprise 6-4 victory over the previously unbeaten Wigginton D whilst Maxi Piler and Dave Wooldridge picked up braces as Topspin D earned a creditable 5-5 draw with Clarence G.

In division one of the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League, leaders Topspin A thrashed Coneysthorpe B 9-1 with Jake McCarthy and Jonny Wooldridge on top form. Second placed Coneysthorpe A were held to a 5-5 draw by Clarence A with Aidan Ranftler playing superbly to remain unbeaten on the night and subjecting Martin Lowe to his first defeat of the season. University A whitewashed York RI C 10-0 whilst trebles from Paul Robertson and Filip Wojtkowiak allowed York RI A to post an 8-2 victory over Shiyi Ling B. Ian Hilton and Gareth Bryning contributed valuable braces as Bootham A earned a fine 5-5 draw again York RI B whilst a maximum from James Atkins could not prevent Topspin B suffering a 6-4 reversal against Shiyi Ling A.
Division two leaders Clarence B showed their class by whitewashing second placed Wigginton A 10-0 and Shepherds A beat a two-man Topspin C 9-1. Alberto Nidasio starred as an understrength York RI D shared the spoils with Ryedale A in a 5-5 draw whilst a treble from Josh Bramley was decisive as York RI E defeated Clarence D 6-4. Two wins apiece for Rich Harrison Dave Rawlings earned Bootham B a welcome 6-4 win over Clarence C with Steve Milner also playing well to beat the in-form Gary Bunce. Ed Buck and Frank Feng were unstoppable as University B crushed Strensall 9-1.
In the third division, Gary Tranter and Chris Sharples starred as Shiyi Ling C recorded a comfortable 8-2 victory over Wigginton C and a maximum from Terry Nicholson made the difference as Clarence E saw off a battling Clarence F 6-4. Three wins from Ed Wardman did the damage as Ryedale B picked up a shock 6-4 win over high flying York RI F whist Zachary Beene led University C to a tight 6-4 victory over BT A. BT B moved off the bottom of the table and picked up their first win of the season with Barry Thomas, Marian Broadbent and Jim Stevenson all contributing two wins in a 7-3 victory over York RI G. Hugo Spark excelled as University C beat Wigginton B 6-4 and three wins from Nigel White allowed BT A to earn a 5-5 draw against Shepherds A.
In the fourth division, Adrian Church and John Hughes starred as Shiyi Ling D beat Shepherds C 7-3 and the evergreen Mike Belton was on form as Clarence H beat Clarence I by the same scoreline. Wigginton D registered two wins, first thrashing a depleted Toppin D 9-1 and then seeing off Clarence G 7-3.

In division one of the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League, leaders Topspin A had Jake McCarthy to thanks as his treble provided the platform for 7-3 victory over Clarence A. Coneysthorpe A moved to within 2 points of the top as Calum Goodwin and Martin Lowe steered them to an 8-2 triumph over York RI B and James Atkins was untroubled as Topspin B beat Shiyi Ling B 7-3. Student Michael Connolly stepped up from the second division to play for University A and his treble allowed them to share the spoils with Coneysthorpe B in a 5-5 draw. Both of the bottom two teams were whitewashed; Bootham A by Shiyi Ling A and York RI C by York RI A.
Second division leaders Clarence B thrashed Strensall 9-1 with Alfie Potter and Mick Kenyon too good. Topspin C turned in their best performance of the season as a brace from Marcin Kotlinski allowed them to secure a 5-5 draw with Ryedale A for whom John Flintoft was unbeaten on the night.
Shiyi Ling C leapt to the top of division three as they stunned high-flying Clarence E with a 10-0 win and Adam Stones excelled as York RI F beat Wigginton B 7-3. Bob Fitzsimmons and Paul Lodder were unbeaten as Clarence F cruised to an 8-2 victory over York RI G whilst Shepherds B defeated University C 7-3. Braces from Ryedale A’s Ed Wardman and Andy Paton were matched by Wigginton C’s Rich Bayliss and Ian Oxborough as a tight encounter ended in honours even in a 5-5 draw and BT A hammered BT B 10-0 to heighten their relegation concerns.
Shiyi Ling D are the new leaders of the fourth division after successive 10-0 victories over Topspin D and a depleted Shiyi Ling E. Wigginton B are in second place after Tony Fairburn led then to an 8-2 win over York RI H. Three wins from Leszek Kozak made the difference as Wigginton E prevailed 6-4 against Shepherds C and Daniel Cox was on form as University D beat Clarence B by the same score. A two-man Clarence I beat their J team 6-4 whilst Mike Belton and Alison Young showed the way as Clarence H recorded a routine 8-2 win against Shiyi Ling E.

In division one of the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League, leaders Topspin A needed a treble from Rob Owen to retain their 100% record, defeating University A 6-4 in a tight encounter. Bootham A emerged triumphant in the crunch relegation battle, as Ian Hilton and Gareth Bryning excelled in a 7-3 victory over York RI C and despite three wins from Filip Wojtkowiak York RI A had to settle for a 5-5 draw with University A. Three wins from Joel Wright was the highlight as Coneysthorpe B and Topspin B shared the spoils in a 5-5 draw and John Wooldridge was on top form as Topspin A cruised to an 8-2 win over York RI B. Calum Goodwin and Martin Lowe were too strong as Coneysthorpe A defeated Shiyi Ling B 8-2 whilst Shiyi Ling A and Clarence B drew 5-5 with Aidan Ranftler unbeaten.
Clarence B whitewashed previously unbeaten York RI D 10-0 to underline their domination of division two and a maiden second-tier treble from Richard Collyer was the highlight as Clarence D stunned Bootham B with a superb 7-3 victory. Josh Bramley was again unbeaten although his York RI E had to settle for a 5-5draw versus Ryedale A whist John McLaughlin and Mark Hodgson were untroubled as Wigginton A thrashed Shepherds A 9-1. Strensall picked up their first victory of the season as Dave Hough starred in an 8-2 win over Topspin C and a treble from Mike Connolly allowed University B to snatch a 5-5 draw against Clarence C.
Third division pacesetters York RI F beat Shepherds B 7-3 with in-form Marcin Ziolek undefeated and Keith Elsegood showed the way as second placed Clarence E recorded a regulation 8-2 victory over Wigginton B. A maximum from student Zachary Beene proved decisive as University C edged out Wigginton C 6-4 and Tom Lines was too good as Clarence F beat BT B 8-2. Struggling York RI G had no answers to Ed Warman and Andy Paton and they suffered a 7-3 reversal against Ryedale B.
Division four leaders Wigginton D had to work hard as Tony Fairburn inspired them to a 7-3 win over their E team and Shiyi Ling D whitewashed University D 10-0 to move level with them at the top of the table. Janet Patman and Brian Bannister were too good as Shiyi Ling E thrashed Clarence J 9-1 whilst a maximum from Nigel Baker was the highlight as Shepherds C and Clarence H ended honours even in a 5-5 draw. Don Horsley showed his class with three wins as York RI H and Clarence G drew 5-5 whilst Greg Westbury and Stephen Jenkins led Clarence I to an 8-2 win over Topspin D

In division one of the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League, Joe Wright and Bryan Birkbeck were on top form as Shiyi Ling A thrashed an under-strength York RI B 9-1 and a treble from James Atkins was key as Topspin B beat University A 8-2. Rob Owen was unbeaten on his York debut as champions Topspin A defeated York RI A 7-3 whilst Martin Lowe and Calum Goodwin were too good as Coneysthorpe A thumped York RI C 9-1. In a tight encounter, braces from Arthur Sorley and Andy Fletcher allowed Shiyi Ling B to edge out Clarence A for whom John Farmery also picked up two wins.
Clarence B underlined their second division title credentials as they whitewashed Bootham B 10-0 whilst York RI D moved into second place as Mark Blackburn and Dave Quinlan guided them to a 9-1 victory over Topspin C. A superb treble from 14 year old John Bramley was of note as York RI E prevailed 7-3 against University B and Stephen Temple showed his class as Ryedale A beat high-flying Wigginton A 6-4. Gary Bunce starred as Clarence C defeated Strensall 7-3 for whom Pete Taylor picked up his first win of the season with Richard Day the victim. Keith Webster was on song as Shepherds A saw off Clarence D 7-3 for whom Paul Seekings played well to pick up two wins.
In the third division Alex Robinson and Christophe Bauer were undefeated as Wigginton B crushed York RI G 9-1 and Bob Young led the way as Clarence E triumphed 7-3 over University C. York RI F put in a superb performance as they thrashed Wigginton C 10-0 whilst a maximum haul from Chis McLuskie was the highlight as BT A beat Ryedale B 8-2. Shiyi Ling C whitewashed BT B 10-0 and Mike Surtees starred as Shepherds B defeated Clarence F 7-3.
Wigginton D remain leaders of the fourth division after they whitewashed Clarence I 10-0 whilst Clarence H beat a depleted Topspin C 7-3. Tom Hemery and Arnold Chung were unstoppable as University B hammered Wigginton E 9-1 whilst a two-man York RI H were still strong enough to beat Shiyi Ling E 7-3. John Hughes excelled as Shiyi Ling D defeated Clarence G 7-3 and Shepherds C eased to a 9-1 victory over Clarence J who could only field two players.

In division one of York & District Table Tennis League sponsored by Red Goat Climbing, a superb treble from Bryan Birkbeck could not prevent Shiyi Ling A suffering a 6-4 reversal against leaders Topspin A. Martin Lowe was on top form as Coneysthorpe A edged out their B team 6-whilst 4 Andy Fletcher and Arthur Sorley were undefeated as Shiyi Ling B cruised to an 8-2 victory over York RI B. A maximum from Richard Moss was the highlight as York RI A defeated Topspin B 6-4 whilst both promoted teams were whitewashed; York RI C at the hands of Clarence C and Bootham B by University A.
Second division leaders Clarence B demolished Topspin C 10-0 whilst Mark Hodgson and Sam Crutchley excelled as Wigginton A secured an 8-2 win against University B. York RI D retained their 100% record with a 6-4 victory over Clarence C for whom Gary Bunce was unbeaten on the night. After a tough start to the season, Ryedale A secured their first win beating Clarence D 8-2 thanks to maximums from Stephen Temple and John Flintoft. In-form Josh Bramley bagged a treble and brother Jack chipped in with a brace as York RI E prevailed 7-3 over Strensall with John Temple playing well to pick up two wins for the villagers. Three wins from Mike Connolly proved decisive as University B bounced back later in the week with a 6-4 victory over Clarence D.

Paul Kozyra and Mike Surtees steered Shepherds A to a 6-4 win against Wigginton C whilst Ryedale B picked up their maiden victory, thrashing BT B 10-0.
In the fourth division, Russ Scott was untroubled as Clarence G and Wigginton E shared the spoils in a 5-5 draw whilst a two-man Shepherds C prevailed 6-4 against Shiyi Ling E. An unbeaten effort from Russ Broadbent made the difference as Wigginton D defeated Clarence H 6-4 and top defender Adrian Church was on form as Shiyi Ling D beat York RI H 8-2. A treble from James Barton was in vain as University D edged out his Clarence I 6-4.

Champions Topspin A are the early season leaders of the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League after whitewashing their B team 10-0. York RI A are in second place after matching Topspin by thrashing Bootham A by the same scoreline. Rich Crowther showed the way as York RI B beat their C team 7-3 whilst Aidan Ranftler was on top form as Clarence A cruised to an 8-2 victory over Coneysthorpe B. A treble from Bryan Birkbeck made the difference as Shiyi Ling A defeated their B team 6-4 although Tom Thorp played well for the losers, bagging an excellent win against Mikey Arnold.
In the second division braces from Alberto Nidasio and Dave Quinlan were just enough to allow York RI D to edge a close battle against York RI E 6-4, for whom youngster Josh Bramley picked up two wins. Clarence C recorded an 8-2 victory over a depleted Topspin C whilst a maximum from John Flintoft was the highlight as Ryedale A and Bootham B shared the spoils in a 5-5 draw. Mark Hodgson retained his unbeaten record as Wigginton A beat Strensall 8-2 although the match was a lot closer than the result suggests with Strensall losing out no less than four times in the final deciding game. Title favourites, Clarence B thrashed Shepherds B 9-1 with Graham Hatfield and Alfie Potter untroubled.
York RI F head the third division after Adam Stone and Mark Antrobus starred in a 9-1 demolition of York RI G. Alex Gresswell picked up the consolation point for the G team with a good win over Jacob Martindale. Three wins from Lewis Harrison proved decisive as Shiyi Ling retained their 100% record with a 6-4 win over Shepherds B and an Alex Robinson treble was key as Wigginton B edged out BT B by the same margin. Clarence E won a tense battle with Wigginton C 6-4 with braces by Terry Nicholson and Bob Young, matched by Naz Hosseinian and Rich Bayliss.
In the fourth division, Wigginton D whitewashed Clarence J 10-0 and Russ Scott steered Clarence G to a 6-4 victory against Clarence I. Horst Meyer and Nigel Baker contributed maximums as Shepherds C crushed Topspin D 9-1 for who Max Piller played well on his debut to beat the experienced David Atkinson. In division one of the Red Goat York & District Table Tennis League, defending champions Topspin A showed no mercy as they thrashed Shiyi Ling B 10-0. Martin Lowe was on top form as Coneysthorpe A beat York RI A 7-3 whilst trebles from Ryan Hood and Mikey Arnold underpinned Shiyi Ling A’s 7-3 victory over a battling York RI C. Nathan Taylor, Will Whattam and Adam Ridley were too good as Topspin B whitewashed promoted Bootham B whilst York RI B edged a close encounter against Coneysthorpe B thanks to braces from Rich Crowther and Nathan Horsley
In the second division a maximum from Ian Williams was the highlight as Shepherds A and Ryedale A shared the spoils in a 5-5 draw whilst Graham Hatfield and Alfie Potter were unbeaten as Clarence B crushed their C team 9-1. A fine treble from Mark Hodgson could not prevent York RI D making it successive wins as they defeated Wigginton A 6-4 whilst a maximum from 14 year old Josh Bramley on his York debut allowed York RI E to prevail 7-3 against Topspin C. Richard Collyer and Chris Maude posted braces as Clarence D finally saw off Strensall 6-4 for whom Simon Prins picked up two wins.
In division 3, Bob Young showed his class as Clarence E recorded a 7-3 victory over Shepherds B and Shiyi Ling C beat Ryedale B 10-0 with the match being prematurely aborted due to illness of one of the Ryedale players. Ian Oxborough and Rich Bayliss were unbeaten as Wigginton C derailed York RI G 9-1 whilst Paul Lodder and Bob Fitzsimmons starred as Clarence F beat Wigginton B by the same score line. Adam Stone recorded three wins on his York winter league debut as, supported by Marcin Ziolek, York RI F recorded an impressive 8-2 victory versus BT A.
In the fourth division, Tony Fairburn and Russ Broadbent were too good as Wigginton D strolled to a 9-1 triumph over Shepherds C whilst veteran John Hughes remained unbeaten as Shiyi Ling D cruised to an 8-2 win over Wigginton E. Clarence I secured their maiden victory as a Stephen Jenkins treble helped them secure a 6-4 victory over York RI H. Two wins from Janet Patman was the highlight as Shiyi Ling E beat a depleted Topspin D 7-3 whilst Russ Scott and Patrick Hough starred as Clarence G overcame their H team by the same margin.

In the York Table Tennis League, sponsored by Red Goat Climbing Company, Topspin York A started their defence of the division 1 title with a 7-3 victory over newly-promoted Bootham A, with Jon Wooldridge and Sammy Kelly on top form. Railway C, also newly-promoted, were well beaten by Shiyi Ling B 9-1 thanks to three wins each from Andy Fletcher and Tom Thorp. Martin Lowe’s maximum helped Coneysthorpe A to a narrow 6-4 win against Topspin B, while Paul Robertson won his three singles for York RI A in their 6-4 defeat of Clarence A. Mike Polkinghorn won his three matches for Coneysthorpe B in a 5-5 draw with Shiyi Ling A.
In division 2, John McLaughlin, Sam Crutchley and Christophe Bauer were unbeaten as Wigginton A started the season in style with a 10-0 win against Topspin C. Maximums from Mick Kenyon and Alfie Potter helped Clarence B to a 9-1 win against Ryedale A. York RI D defeated Clarence D 8-2 thanks to trebles from Mark Blackburn and Dave Quinlan. Richard Ingleby was in top form for Bootham B in their 7-3 defeat of newly-promoted Strensall. Clarence C narrowly defeated York RI E 6-4 thanks to three wins by Gary Bunce.
In the third division York RI F were too strong for BT B with trebles from Marcin Ziolek and Mark Antrobus contributing to an 8-2 win. Wigginton C defeated BT A by the same score, with Naz Hosseinian winning his three matches. Keith Elsegood was unbeaten for Clarence E in their 7-3 defeat of York RI G, while Paul Kozyra and Mike Surtees were unbeaten for Shepherds B as they overcame Ryedale B by the same score. A maximum from Gary Tranter helped Shiyi Ling C to a 6-4 win against Wigginton B.
In the fourth division, John Hughes and Adrian Church were unbeaten for Shiyi Ling D in their 9-1 win against Clarence I, as were John Hunt and Vic Demciuch for Wigginton E in their 9-1 defeat of Shiyi Ling E. A treble from Russ Scott helped Clarence G to an 8-2 win against Clarence J. Dom Horsley’s maximum for York RI H was not enough to prevent his team losing 6-4 against Clarence H.
