Individual handicap competition.
This season's Bagshaw Trophy has been won by Adam Ridley of Bootham Conservative Club. 29 players took part in the event spread across 6 groups during the week of 12th September. This is the highest entry in the event in recent years. The 6 players who contested finals night at the RI on Friday 16th September were Adam Ridley, Naz Hosseinian (Haxby & Wigginton) together with Lewis Harrison, Ben Lockyer, Jacob Martindale and Jake McCarthy (all from York RI) in 2 round-robin groups of 3.
In the group matches Adam had a comfortable 42-23 win against Ben Lockyer, but his win against Naz was much closer. Naz required just 7 points from the second game and had reached six when Adam had 11, but Adam won the next 10 points to win 21-6 (42-41 overall). Ben defeated Naz to claim the other semi-final place from this group. Lewis won the other group, with 12-year-old Jacob taking the remaining semi-final slot.
In the semi-finals Adam overcame the rapidly improving Jacob, who needed just 10 points, by 42-38, and Ben beat Lewis.
The final between Adam and Ben was closer than their group encounter. Adam won the first game comfortably and needed 14 from the second, which he achieved.
Congratulations to Adam, and well done to all other participants.
Thanks to Tim Smith for organising the completion again this year.
