Winter League
Coneysthorpe ‘A’ (Ashley Hodgson, Martin Lowe, James Rule) retained the Division 1 championship, ahead of YRI 'A' (Nathan Horsley, Richard Moss, Paul Robertson). Both Martin Lowe and James Rule went through the season unbeaten, Martin for the second season in succession.
Division 2 was won by Clarence B (Graham Hatfield, Martin Hood, Mick Kenyon, Alfie Potter). Wetherby (Alan Balmforth, Ian Hilton, Dave Jackson, Joe Wright) were runners-up but missed out on promotion after losing the play-off against York RI C.
Clarence C (Robert Farmery, Simon Prins, Bob Young) topped Division 3. Second-placed York RI G (Anne Barnard, Lewis Harrison, Peter Smalley) were also promoted. Peter Corner and Robert Farmery topped the averages.
Division 4 champions were Clarence E (Bob Fitzsimmons, Phil Foster, Tom Lines). Clarence F (Linda Scott, Russ Scott, Steve Wands) were runners-up but missed out on promotion after losing the play-off against Wigginton & Haxby. Paul Lodder and Russ Scott topped the averages.
York Closed Championships
James Rule (Coneysthorpe) won the Men’s Singles title. He beat team-mate and defending champion Marin Lowe in the final. The Ladies champion is Jane Cohen (York RI), who beat Rachel Greener (Bootham CC) in the final.
In the doubles Martin Lowe and James Rule won the Men’s event, and the Mixed was won by Jane Cohen and Martin Lowe.
James Rule won the Junior Singles, while Matthew Lowe (Coneysthorpe) won the Cadets’ (under-15) title.
Handicap Competitions
The Bagshaw Trophy (individual handicap competition) was held during the week before the start of the Winter League. Mikey Arnold beat Alfie Potter in the final. The other finalists were Mark Antrobus, Olly Bailey, John Farmery, Lewis Harrison, Ben Lockyer and Arthur Sorley.
The finals of the team handicap knock-out competitions were played at the Railway Institute on Thursday 12th May 2016. The Shepherds Trophy was won by York RI I (Alex Robinson, Ben Robinson, Arthur Sorley), who beat Shepherds A (Peter Harpham, Keith Webster, Ian Williams) 5-2 in the final. In the Machell Trophy final Coneysthorpe A (Martin Lowe, Matthew Lowe, Sam Lowe) beat Clarence WMC A (Milo Cupik, Graham Hatfield, Aidan Ranftler) 5-1.
The Summer League (2015) was won by York RI A (Mikey Arnold, Ben Lockyer, Peter Smalley). They beat Bootham A (Jimmy Mills, Rich Harrison, Lee Poulter) in the final by 5.5 - 2.5.
Yorkshire Veterans' League
York 1 (Jon Wooldridge (10/19), Mick Wilcockson (5/15), Richard Crowther (5/24), Chris Londesborough (1/12)) finished bottom of Division 1 so were relegated.
York 2 (John Farmery (15/17), Alfie Potter (13/15), Martin Hood (11/12), Mick Kenyon (9/12), Jo Suchecki (4/6)) won Division 3 and are promoted. John Farmery was joint winner of the Merit Award (most wins) for this division.
York 3 (Tim Smith (13/21), Jeff Cohen (11/15), Rich McCarthy (9/18), Andy Fletcher (8/9)) and York 4 (Gareth Bryning (9/15), Dave Quinlan (6/12), Alan Balmforth (5/12), Mark Blackburn (3/3), Peter Smalley (3/15), Aidy McClaren (1/3), David Smith (1/3)) finished 4th and 5th out of eight respectively in Division 3.
