Individual handicap competition. One game to 42 points. Thanks to Tim Smith for organising the competition.
Report from Tim Smith
The winner of this year’s curtain-raiser to the Winter League programme is Richard Morris of York RI. Morris was joined on finals night on Friday 20th September by his son Tom, John Stokes, Tim Smith, Filip Wojtkowiak (all of York RI) and Terry Ruane from Aviva. The group matches and semi-finals were fiercely contested affairs with Morris beating Stokes and Ruane just pipping Wojtkowiak by one point. In the final, Richard Morris got away to a flyer with Terry Ruane unable to haul the RI man in, the game running to its logical conclusion. Chair of the league, Tim Smith, said: “I’m really pleased to have organised yet another Bagshaw Trophy competition, with plenty of examples of top quality table tennis. I commend Richard for the consistency and quality of his play – he was a deserved winner. I’m also encouraged to see that the new format we have used for the Bagshaw has gone down well. Our committee will be discussing applying it for other handicap competitions in the future."
