The annual Awards Evening was held on Friday 19th May 2017 at Holgate Club. Trophies and awards were presented by Clive Warley (GMBU and Association President) and Jeff Cohen (Time Communications) who sponsor events, Tim Smith (Association Chairman), and Judy Milner who presented the Brian Milner Memorial Trophy (York Closed Veterans' Singles). MC for the evening was Tim Smith. Jon Wooldridge hosted an excellent quiz that included a crisp-tasting round and a number of questions on how good York City used to be.

Clive Warley presents the York Closed Junior Singles trophy to James Rule (Coneysthorpe). James also won the Division One Singles title.
James and Martin receive the Division One trophy from Jeff Cohen. Both were unbeaten during the season. Ashley Hodgson was the other Coneysthorpe A team member. The pair also won the York Closed Men's Doubles title.
Clara Bellstedt (Clarence TTC) won the York Closed Ladies' Sigles title ...
... and the Ladies Doubles, with Anne Barnard (York RI), ...
... and the Hard Bat Doubles, with Joe Wright (Bootham CC).
University A (Ishan Bairoliya, Martin Brown, Calum Goodwin) won Division Two. Having presented them with the trophy Jeff has blended into the background. Calum also won the Division Two Singles at the York Closed.
And there's Jeff again, having presented the Division Three trophy to Owen Li and Razvan Ababei of University B. Yankui Feng and Jack Taylor also played for this team.
Ishan Bairoliya receives the Clifford Trophy, awarded for his performances at the York Closed, from Clive. Ishan won the Handicap Doubles with Mark Blackburn (York RI) and defeated a number of higher ranked players in the singles events.
Jon Wooldridge (Bootham CC) and Marian Broadbent (BT) won the York Closed Mixed Doubles title.
"That's enough joshing, Clive. Just hand over the trophy, and the rest while you're at it". John Farmery won the Super Veterans' Singles and the Hard Bat Singles at the York Closed, and the Machell Trophy for Clarence A with Graham Hatfield and Milo Cupik. Who wote this stuff?
The Shepherd Trophy was won by York RI C (Andy Fletcher, Mikey Arnold, Jeff Cohen and Richard Crowther). Jeff did not play in the final, being the victim of a ruthless squad rotation system, but he did win the Veterans' Doubles title with Andy Fletcher at the York Closed.

Mikey Arnold (York RI) won the Handicap Singles at the York Closed.
Arthur Sorley (York RI) won the Cadets (under 15s) Singles at the York Closed.
Arthur teamed up with Sam Lowe (Coneysthorpe) to win the Junior Doubles title.
Jacob Martindale (York RI) won the Division Four Singles title at the York Closed and was awarded the RE Jakeman Trophy (most promising junior).
