Coneysthorpe win Yorkshire Clubs title (report from Charles Allenby)
Coneysthorpe Table Tennis Club entered the Yorkshire Seniors Club competition, held at Hull, more in hope than in expectation. Yet, despite this uncertainty, they caused something of a surprise by emerging as winners. This fine achievement was mainly due to having the best team in depth on the day. The three matches Coneysthorpe played were extremely close. Leeds were defeated 6-3; Dewsbury became the next Coneysthorpe victims 5-4, whilst in a pulsating final encounter Hull were overcome by the same slender 5-4 margin. Martin Lowe won seven out of his nine sets, the two he lost both going to five games; Ashley Hodgson won five from nine, and fifteen year old James Rule won four from nine.
