How do you stay motivated during training?
I keep myself motivated during training by thinking back to the end goal of my work which is competing at WPIAL and states, and the feeling of crossing the line at a good time. I also enjoy going to practice and seeing my friends, and they motivate me to work hard and push myself.

What is your favorite track and field event to participate in?
My favorite track event to compete in is the 4x4 relay because it is so exciting and fun to have your team there with you to celebrate the good races.

What is the biggest misconception about track and field?
The biggest misconception about track and field is that it is solely an individual sport. Although open races are only you against other competitors, you always have teammates there for you to support and make you feel good.

How do you handle disappointment or setbacks in your track and field career?

Track has taught me that even with constant hard work and training, you will not always consistently improve and win. I handle this by setting goals for each meet that are best for me and my personal times instead of comparing myself to others, which usually lessens disappointment.

Do you have any pre-meet rituals?
When I am on the line before a meet, I always do a couple of tuck jumps to get my legs warm and then do a little shake to “shake out” the nerves.

Maya, the talented freshman athlete from North Allegheny, is using every meet as an opportunity to gain valuable experience for the future. This season, she has achieved an impressive time of 26.34 in the 200m dash, which currently ranks her 8th in the WPIAL and 2nd fastest among freshmen. Maya is a key member of both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, which are strong contenders this season in the WPIAL.  Given her impressive performances, it would not be surprising to anticipate that Maya will continue to improve, and it would be reasonable to expect that she breaks the 26-second mark in the 200m dash by May and earns three medals at the WPIAL finals. I believe she has the potential to excel as an open 400-meter runner in the future.
