Is there a coach or athlete that you look up to as a role model and why?

Definitely my cross-country coach, Coach Rager. He was my first running coach when I moved to Derry in my Sophomore year, and he has made an immeasurable impact on my life. He's showed me that it's not just the big workouts that make the difference, but the small things that have the biggest impact. He taught me what to do outside of practice to succeed, like getting enough sleep, what I should and should not eat, and how to train my mind for tough races. We have a great relationship that goes beyond just coaching. If it wasn't for him, I would not be where I am today.

What is the best advice you ever got and who gave it?

When I was going through a time of self-doubt in my training, Coach Rager told me, “You’re suffering from self-doubt while other people are scared of your full potential." It helped get me back on track and believe in myself again.

Do you have a favorite sports quote?

I wouldn't call it a sports quote, but when Thomas Edison said, “I didn’t fail, I found 100 ways how not to make a lightbulb.” I think of this quote often and it reminds me that not everything I do is going to be perfect, and to trust the process.

Which strengths do you believe you have that make you a great athlete?

My competitive edge. I don't see the point in doing something if you don't do it with the intention of being the best. I enjoy the process and the training it takes to achieve that.

Do you have any advice for young people who want to start a career in Track & Field?

I would tell them that it isn't always the hard, glorious workouts that you do. It's the easy run and extra stretching days. It's going to bed early and getting proper sleep. It's doing all the little, small things right that will separate you from the pack.
