2023 WPIAL Summary

Twenty-four champions returned, and fifteen successfully defended their 2022 championships.

Jolena Quarzo won her third consecutive 3200m WPIAL title and secured the fifth consecutive championship for the Quarzo Family. She also defended her 1600m championship.

Nora Johns achieved a three-peat by winning the 300 hurdles for the third season in a row.

Dani Prunzik captured the 100m dash for the third consecutive year and set a new WPIAL record in the process. She also won the 200m dash for the sprint double.

Liz Tapper once again proved to be a double winner by successfully defending her Shot Put and Discus Championships.

Rose Kuchera added four more gold medals to her impressive resume by defending her 100 hurdles and Triple Jump championships from 2022. She also won the Long Jump and was part of the winning 4x100 relay team.


Grace Howard successfully defended her High Jump title.


Tori Atkins, only a sophomore, completed the 200/400 double once again, adding to her already impressive collection of four WPIAL gold medals.


Logan St. John Kletter won the 1600m and 3200m races after missing the 2022 WPIAL Championships.


Isabella Costa won the 400-meter dash and anchored the North Allegheny girls to the 4x400 gold medal.


Jacob Puhalla, the current WPIAL record holder in the 800-meter run, captured his third straight championship.


Peyton Murray went back-to-back in the boys' Discus, and he will look for a three-peat in 2024.


Antonio Votour set a WPIAL record and won his second straight 110 hurdle championship.


Andrew Layton won another Pole Vault Championship, marking the fifth Pole Vault WPIAL championship for Waynesburg in six years.


Drew Griffith won the 1600m and 3200m races, and he also set a new WPIAL record in the 1600-meter run.


Dane Asbury emerged victorious in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.


Amberson Bauer triumphed in both the 800m and 1600m races.


Carlynton boys won two out of three relays, the 4x100 and 4x400.


The North Allegheny girls and Butler boys won the 4x400 relay for the second straight year.
