Jesse was born in Westruun, in Tal’Dorei, to a modest halfling family. His early childhood is a blur of loneliness. He doesn’t remember much about his parents — why they abandoned him, or where they are now. On a trip to Wildemount, his parents abandoned him in the port city of Port Damali. Left to fend for himself, Jesse grew up homeless, surviving the streets of the city, navigating the world alone, fighting for scraps of food, and always having to keep an eye out for threats. He eventually left Port Damali and began traveling across Exandria. He has no permanent home — traveling across Exandria, he prefers the open road to cities. His experiences with monstrous spiders, harpies, and other terrors has left him with a constant sense of danger looming over him, and he struggles to shake the feeling that something terrible is always just around the corner. Experiencing flashbacks, nightmares, and bouts of hyperarousal — Jesse finds sleep difficult. In moments of high stress or danger, Jesse tends to rely on hyper-alertness, keeping him alive but never allowing him to fully relax.

He found a new family in Wilhand Trickfoot, Pike, and a close circle of friends, turning his back on the family that abandoned him. His rage, which was once uncontrolled, has been tempered by his love for his friends, though it’s never far beneath the surface, waiting for the right trigger — like any threat to his new family.His strength is unmatched, and he takes pride in his physical power, spending much of his free time working out or boxing. A practical person, Grog works as a timber cutter and sometimes a fencer. Though impulsive and aggressive, Grog has a sweet side that comes out around his friends, and he is deeply protective of Pike, viewing her as more of a sibling than anything else. Though he can be boisterous and intimidating, those close to him know him as a gentle giant with hidden depths, capable of great love and fierce loyalty. Grog struggles with his literacy, which occasionally makes him self-conscious, especially around his smarter friends. Pike has been helping him with this but it's still a sore spot for him. His large white cat, Minxie, is one of the few others who see this tenderness regularly, as Grog is affectionate with her and enjoys her constant physical attention.

While she is fantastic with plants and animals, her interactions with humans are strained, and she is still trying to figure out how to manage her social awkwardness. On her family’s farm, which she took over, Keyleth feels most at ease. It's a diverse operation, home to a variety of animals, including poultry and a dairy. The farm also grows vegetables, fruits, and flowers. Beyond the farm, she helps with the operation of the Slayer's Cake, a bakery she opened with her friends. In addition to the farm animals, she has a pet cat, dog, horse, and an eagle that she rescued as a child. When she was younger, Keyleth tried to release the eagle, Zephrah, into the wild, but he returned, too tame to live independently. While Keyleth finds comfort in the daily tasks of farm life, the responsibilities that come with them often feel overwhelming, adding pressure to her already strained sense of self-worth. Keyleth’s self-doubt stems from the high expectations placed on her by her family and her community, leaving her with a low opinion of herself and her abilities. Verse dependent: Her first love, Vax, was a grounding force for her, someone who saw her for who she truly was and loved her despite her insecurities. However, their relationship was ended by his death. This loss has haunted her, especially as she watches others around her find happiness.

After years of neglect, the twins fled their father's home, setting out into the world with nothing but each other.When Vex and Vax returned to the village they had been born in, they discovered their mother's home destroyed by a gang, and their mother gone — killed in the attack. This solidified Vex's hatred for organised crime groups, and she devoted years of her life to studying criminal networks. She developed a sharp mind for money though her relationship with wealth is complicated. Growing up with her mother's humble means and later being exposed to her father’s opulence, Vex developed a deep-seated insecurity about her social status. Vex rarely spends money on herself, instead using her wealth to support her friends.She works as a private investigator specializing in organised crime financing. She works alongside her brother Vax, using her skills in tracking finances in her spare time to unravel the funding behind trafficking networks. Vex and Trinket (her large, brown, male Newfoundland dog) are inseparable, with Vex fiercely protective of him.
