Jack was born and raised in the United States, and after graduating from high school, she attended college and pursued a degree in psychology. At the age of nineteen, Jack was sexually assaulted by a friend at a party, resulting in her becoming pregnant. She made the decision to give her daughter, Faith, up for adoption.Following this, Jack enlisted in the United States Army and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. She served in various locations, as part of psy-ops. During a mission in Afghanistan, Jack's unit was captured by a terrorist named Masahun. Over the next nine months, Jack and her unit endured torture at the hands of Masahun and his men. Jack, in particular, was targeted due to her gender, suffering extensive physical and psychological trauma. The entirety of the rest of her unit was killed during their captivity.Jack was left deeply scarred, both physically and psychologically. She developed severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), cleithrophobia (the fear of being trapped, locked in, or unable to leave), and survivor's guilt, blaming herself for the deaths of her friends. Her anger and trauma manifested in her behaviour, leading to incidents like a bar fights and a road rage.Following her discharge from the Army, she embarked on a career as a forensic psychologist in California, working for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). She was later offered her a position at the main NCIS Headquarters in Washington, D.C., which she eventually accepted.

Unbeknownst to them, this group is a cult, masquerading as terrorists while harbouring supernatural secrets. The cultists subject Jack and her comrades to torture, both physical and psychological. The malevolent demon that led the cult revels in tormenting its victims. Eventually, Jack is rescued, but the ordeal leaves her both physically and emotionally scarred. After her rescue, Jack crosses paths with Leon Vance, an experienced supernatural hunter. Recognizing Jack's potential, Vance becomes her mentor and guide in the ways of hunting dangerous supernatural creatures. She sees her role as a hunter as a way to protect others from similar horrors.
