SAINT JOHN BOSCO PARISH MUSIC MINISTRY
As we reflect on the blessings of this past year, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to the members of our church choirs. Your dedication, talent, and unwavering commitment to the ministry have been a source of inspiration and joy for our entire congregation.
Week after week, whether during Sunday services, special programs, or holiday celebrations, you have faithfully lifted your voices in praise and worship. Through every note and harmony, you have helped lead us into the presence of God, offering more than just music—you have offered ministry.
We recognize the time, energy, and personal sacrifice that goes into every rehearsal and performance. Your behind-the-scenes efforts often go unnoticed, but they are deeply appreciated. Thank you for showing up, for giving your best, and for serving with such heart and humility. May God continue to bless you abundantly, strengthen your voices, and fill you with His joy as you continue to serve through music. We are truly grateful for each one of you.
NEW MUSIC MINISTRY MEMBERS WELCOME!
The Church’s Music Ministry is a place for everyone! The St. John Bosco Music Ministry is a place where we can all come together to make music and help our congregation to pray better at weekly masses and special occasions throughout the church year. It is a place to use our God-given talents to better our entire church community. Contrary to popular belief; you do not need to be a professional singer and you don’t even need to know how to read music (though, an added perk- you’ll most likely start to pick up on once you’re in rehearsals!) If you have the desire to make music with other committed members of our church family, then we have a place for you in our music ministry!
The St. John Bosco Music Ministry has several facets that you may choose to join:
1. Adult Choir – open to anyone – rehearsals take place every Monday from 7:00-8:30 PM. Adult Choir sings on the 1st Sunday of the month at the 11:30 AM mass and 3rd Saturday at 4:00 PM mass. Choir also sings at all special masses throughout the church year (Mass of Remembrance, Feast of Christ the King, Christmas Eve, Palm Sunday and all Holy Week masses, Easter Sunday, First Communion, Confirmation, and Pentecost Sunday.)
2. Youth Choir – Open to any student, grades K-12. Rehearsals begin on November 16th and take place on Sundays after the 11:30 mass: from 12:30-1:30 PM. The Youth Choir sings at the SJB Living Nativity, the 4:00 PM mass on Christmas Eve, the 11:30 AM mass on the Epiphany of our Lord, and the 11:30 AM mass on Mother’s Day.
3. Adult and Junior Cantor program – Open to adult or teen students who are interested in leading the congregation at weekly mass. You should have previous vocal experience and the ability to read music in order to become a cantor.
Remember – as a member of the church’s music ministry…
You’ll always have a front row seat at all masses
We have fabulous bake sales twice a year
Our Christmas party and summer get-together are great fun!
AND - you’ll become a member of a true family as we make music together each week.
If you are interested in joining a group in our Music Ministry, please stop by after the 11:30 mass to see music director Jen Gerhard, or any choir member. You can also contact Jen at jgerhard@mmiprep.org with any questions or concerns.
All are welcome!!
Our adult choir will resume rehearsals on Monday, September 15, at 7 PM. NEW MEMBERS are always welcome to join our wonderful choir that assists us in giving praise and worship to God. The Choir will begin practice for the Remembrance Mass, the Solemnity of the Advent and Christmas Season and the other masses of Ordinary time. The choir usually sings at the 4 pm Mass on the Third Saturday of the month and the 11:30 am Mass on the First Sunday of the month. The responsibility of an adult cantor/leader of song is extremely important to the quality of the mass experience. Cantors are responsible for leading all hymns and mass parts, as well as the Responsorial Psalm and Alleluia at each mass. These individuals must have excellent leadership qualities and a strong voice with the ability to lead the congregation in prayer through song.
The Junior Cantor program is open to students grades 7-college age. Prior (or present) vocal training is required to join the junior cantor program.
Anyone interested in becoming an adult or junior cantor should contact Jennifer Gerhard, music director, or Father Polmounter to set up a time to meet.

The instrumentalists are a group of professional musicians who enhance the experience of the mass with instrumental music. The String players and instrumentalists perform at all special masses (First Holy Communion and Confirmation) as well as all holiday masses and other select masses throughout the year. Instrumentalists attend adult choir rehearsals in the weeks prior to their masses in order to rehearse as a full ensemble. Any instrumentalist (with prior experience and the ability to read music well) should contact Miss Gerhard to set up a time to meet.
