If you have been near Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Weston recently, you may have heard the church bell in the steeple ringing after many years being silent. Through the generosity of a parishioner the bell has been restored and now automatically rings each day at 8 am, Noon and 6 pm. It also rings on Sunday at 8:55 am for a Mass call and at 9 am for the beginning of the celebration of Sunday Mass. It may also be manually be rung for other Masses and has a toll bell for funerals. The restoration is in memory of JEFFREY ALLEN HERRING by his family. The tradition of ringing bells either inside the church building during Mass and other liturgical services or outside from the bell tower or steeple is an ancient tradition calling us to pause and offer a prayer or as a call to worship. On a rare occasion they are used to signal or recall an important event. The bells at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church are from the 19th century but I am told that they are in excellent condition. May the ringing of our Church bell remind us of God's presence in our daily life, our community and encourage us to pause and offer a prayer.
