Schultz Elementary PTO

Meeting Date: May 14, 2024                       Meeting Location: Art Room

Attendance: Heather Calhoun, Melissa Hay, Jayme Hiller, Rose Long, Kristina McDonald, Angela Miley, Jay Miley, Bree Saunders, Jerilyn Schmidt, Lauren Skillen, Melissa Stansbery, Carla Whipple

1. Call to Order at 7:05pm

2. Minutes: Review of minutes from 4/9/24 meeting—motion to approve K. McDonald, 2nd R. Long

3. Co-President's Report

• PTO Scholarship Update—Awarded to Carter Sims and Adrienne Cordi

• Mrs. Long’s last PTO meeting, member since 1996

4. Treasurer’s Report

• Budget Update—$13,848.28 since 5/13/24

  • Responses are down since communication is digital (ex. Artsonia, Box Tops—representative to take over these?)

    • Next year print Quarterly/3 times a year seasonal updates on what’s coming up (like Year at a Glance idea from this year)

  • $7,363.83 profit from Foertmeyer, down from last year

  • Profit over $1,000 for field day t-shirts (applied toward shirt purchase for volunteers and some students)

  • Profit $800 from Parents Night Out

  • Other funds spent:

    • Kindergarten moosical

    • 5th yard signs

    • Staff Appreciation meals, breakfast, raffles

• Funding Requests

  • 5th Grade Yard Signs- $453.88 for poles and signs (Under budget with VistaPrint)

  • 5th Grade Celebration- 5 cakes and cookies from Costco from $800 line item, Motion to approve J. Miley, 2nd R. Long, all in favor--approved!

  • Senior Luncheon—staying under budget

  • Field Day--$200 line item

  • Gym--$300 line item, 4 basketball nets, 2 spike ball game, air pump, 4 stop watches, pool noodles, buckets, 3oz cup, balloons—motion to approve R. Long, 2nd H. Calhoun, all in favor--approved!

5. Committee Reports

• Events

  • Spring Fling--DJ in gym, twister, board games, tattoo table, guess how many candy jars, cootie catchers, 2 photo opps, (currently have 48 responses/~100 people have RSVP’d), caricature artist unable to come

• Fundraising

  • Spring Parents’ Night Out Update--80 kids

  • Foertmeyer prizes have been distributed

• Staff Appreciation

  • Staff Appreciation Week (last week)—under budget, 21 gift cards raffled off, Amazon most popular, but lowest quantity of cards, add more next year, Whit’s popular,

    • Next year have something different than pizza (move to conference meals and do something nacho/walking taco, everyone loved yogurt and fruit, not as many coffee drinkers, liked the teas on the cart)

  • Staff Retirements—Mrs. Rose Long (here since 1996), cake to share

7. Old Business

• NexTrek bench is here!  Waiting on facilities to get back to us for placement

• Reminders to save plastic over summer

8. New Business

•  Vote for board positions, activate Angela Miley—R. Long motions to keep the same, 2nd H. Calhoun, all in favor--approved!

• Board will meet over summer, let us know if any new ideas, add position of “Fundraising Chairs”

Discussion:

• Dominos fundraiser—Card for $20 (buy $xx get xx free nationwide), no work, comes back done, past: more expensive using card than using coupons (Ask Vanessa??)

• Read-a-Ton

• Popsicles/Picnic on the Playground, spiritwear at back to school night

• March for Music

• Family Picnic Night

9. Announcements

• Next meeting will be Tuesday, September 10, 2024 @ 7pm
