321A

Overview

The 321A is an elevator model from Schindler, introduced in May 1998. Much of its design was incorporated into the later 330A.

Characteristics

The following criteria apply to all 321As:

  • Holeless hydraulic with jack behind operating panel

  • Non-overlapping door jamb (see picture)

  • Installed between May 1998* and March 2001

  • 2100 or 2500 lb capacity

  • 2-4 floors

  • Side-opening front door, no rear or side doors

  • Standard HT fixtures (not Premium or Vandal Resistant)

The easiest way to tell a 321A from a 330A is the corners of the door jambs.

All 321As originally had the "low-pitched" or "ultra-low-pitched" HT chimes. These chimes were replaced with the standard HT chimes on most 321As after 2004.

Most 321As have loud motors.

Some older 321As have a capacity label that is different from the current one. The font on this label is italic and much thinner than on the standard label. This label was discontinued in 1999 and is extremely rare.


*Newly discovered evidence suggests that the previously claimed November 1997 release date is incorrect, 321A was released in 1998 according to Schindler media.
