To the best of our knowledge, their inclusion here does not infringe upon creators' copyright or violate any copyright laws. Fair Use

Some media on the Guide, particularly images, marketing brochures. and technical documents of elevators, escalators, and fixtures, are copyrighted material that we are redistributing for research and educational purposes. We believe that our use of said media is protected by the doctrine of fair use under United States copyright law.

The four factors of fair use, as defined by Title 17 of the United States Code, are:

1. The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes
   Our use of these copyrighted works falls under the latter, and such uses have historically been considered fair use in court.

2. The nature of the copyrighted work
   These are published, non-fiction works, primarily intended for advertising and information, and made available for widespread distribution to, or download by, the public for no charge at the time of publication.

3. The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole
   The amount of copyrighted content that we reuse is necessary for our research and education project.

4. The effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work
   Our use will not have any negative impact on the market for the copyrighted works (there isn't much of a market for the media itself), and if anything will increase publicity of, and public interest in, the advertised products.
