Overview

The 3100 is a Schindler low-rise MRL traction elevator model. It's mostly identical to the second-generation 3300 but with a few differences (see Characteristics)

Characteristics

3100s are mostly the same as newer 3300s, except:

  • Maximum rise is three floors

  • Cannot be a bank of two or more, only a single elevator

  • Can only have flat handrails, not curved

  • Speed can only be 100 ft/minute

It has been said that 3100s in North America have tactile arrows on their call buttons, however, this is not true. The 3100's fixtures are exactly the same as newer 3300s.

The 3100 uses Schindler's Suspension Traction Media (STM) belts instead of traditional ropes. Schindler claims these belts have a longer lifespan than cables, and allow for a smaller motor in the hoistway.
