Innovation Fixtures

Universal

Universal is the most common Innovation fixture, and among the most common elevator fixtures in the United States. It consists of a white plastic button (circle or square) usually with a number in the center. Call buttons have arrows on them, similar to Dover Traditional.

Older Universal buttons (commonly seen on Montgomery and Montgomery KONE elevators) usually light up in an off-white color with incandescent lights, though they've been replaced with LEDs on some. These older buttons use contacts, as opposed to the clicky microswitches on newer versions. Newer examples have LED lights, usually amber, but also sometimes white, red, blue, or green.

A Universal button is prominently featured as the North American Elevator Guide's logo.

Six variants of Universal exist:

  • PB01 - projecting circle

  • PB02 - flush circle

  • PB03 - flush circle, California code compliant

  • PB04 - projecting square

  • PB05 - flush square

  • PB06 - flush square, California code compliant

Black Universal & Colored Universal

Black Universal is a very rare variant of Universal that features black Universal buttons with amber LED halo lights. These buttons usually include the same numbers and symbols as regular Universal.

Similarly, Colored Universal incorporates colored (red, blue, yellow, and green are the known options) buttons with the same amber LEDs. This fixture does not have Universal's symbols or numbers.

Due to their design, these may be considered part of the Premier series. These fixtures do not appear in any current Innovation marketing material and are probably discontinued.

Decorator

Decorator is a variant of Universal that has a slightly smaller square button, with a wraparound label. Like Universal, older versions also had contacts and used incandescent bulbs instead of LEDs.

Two variants of Decorator exist:

  • PB07 - non-California code compliant

  • PB08 - California code compliant

Security

Security was the first vandal resistant fixture offered by Innovation. It consists of a circle (or rarely, square) metal button with a flat surface, and a red incandescent (1984-2001) or LED (2000-present) indicator light in the center. Older versions of Security used contacts, and newer ones have microswitches, just like Universal and Decorator.

Security is most common on Montgomery KONE elevators. It is rare to see in newer installations, as Bruiser is more popular among smaller elevator companies.

Bruiser

Bruiser is a vandal resistant fixture. It consists of a circle metal button that angles up at the edges to a flat surface. It features an LED lamp in the center, usually red, sometimes blue, or rarely white, green, or amber. Recent blank Bruiser buttons have engravings on them in addition to the braille to state what the button does.

I-Line

This line of surface-mount Innovation fixtures is commonly called I-Line. This call station can incorporate Universal, Decorator, Bruiser, or Security buttons.

There are two variants of this call station. The first is a rectangle, with a stainless steel face, buttons at the bottom, and plastic on the sides. The second has black sides that angle up to a stainless steel face.

Lanterns

Innovation makes two types of lanterns.

The first consists of two white plastic arrows. These light up in many different colors, including red, white, amber, green, and off-white. These lanterns are very common on Montgomery, Montgomery KONE, and KONE elevators.

The other type consists of two arrows, each consisting of two diagonal rows of four LEDs on a metal background. Down arrows of this type usually light up red, up lanterns light up green or white.
