Rarity Scale

The NAEG Rarity Scale is a ten-point scale created by Tkefan29 to express the rarity of elevators, escalators, & fixtures.

10 - Über Rare

There are fewer than 10 known examples of this elevator, escalator, or fixture in operation in North America.

Examples:

  • Schindler M-Series

  • Schindler Haughton L Series Vandal Resistant

  • Otis Series 3 Touch Sensitive

  • Otis SCE

9 - Very Rare

There are fewer than 100 known examples of this elevator or fixture in operation in North America. Under 20 for escalators.

Examples:

  • O&K Escalators

  • Otis NextStep

  • Otis Series 5 NEL

  • ThyssenKrupp ISIS

8 - Endangered

This elevator or escalator model is in danger of going extinct due to modernizations or a lack of parts

Examples:

  • Otis Touch Sensitive

  • Otis Autotronic

7 - Rare

Examples:

  • Schindler 321A

  • Schindler Long Bar MT

  • Otis black buttons

  • KONE KSS 600

6 - Regional

This elevator or escalator is only found in a few certain areas in North America. It may be common in those areas.

Note: An elevator may be only found in certain areas, but be included in a higher category based on other factors.

Examples:

  • Mitsubishi

  • Fujitec

  • Haughton/Schindler Haughton

5 - Semi-Rare

Less rare than 7 but less common than 3.

Examples:

  • 2004-07 KONE hydraulic

  • Westinghouse AE

4 - New

Rare but introduced to market in the past five years.

Examples:

  • Schindler 3100

  • Schindler 3300 XL

3 - Semi-common

Common, may be rare in some areas.

Examples:

  • Schindler 400A

  • Schindler 3300

2 - Common

Examples:

  • KONE EcoSpace

  • Otis Series 5

  • Otis curved-end escalators

1 - Very Common

Can be easily found in almost every major metro area in the United States and Canada.

Examples:

  • Dover/Thyssen Dover/ThyssenKrupp Impulse

  • Otis Gen2

  • Schindler 9300AE

  • Schindler 330A
