I decided to pick two different articles that have similar storylines. The first article I picked, “Youth Admits Kidnapping And Killing Girls, 7 and 8” talks about how a seventeen year old boy raped and killed two little girls. The seventeen year old, Edward Haight, admitted to committing these crimes against the sisters, Margaret and Helen Lynch. He left their bodies in two different places after he kidnapped them and left them for dead. He also said he was preparing that day to do this to someone and he needed to find a victim which is just awful. This story was truly hard to digest, but I knew how important it was to talk about. The second article, “2 Little Girls Raped Before Death in Bridgeport, Medical Aide Says”, talks about two young girls who were also raped and killed. These step cousins, Michele South and Jameria Croom, were raped and left for dead in an abandoned refrigerator outside. This article did not talk about finding the killer, but it talked about whether or not it was a homicide or accident. Reading what little regard whoever committed this crime had for these children was very upsetting. These four little girls’ stories are not an uncommon one even in the modern age. These articles were hard to read and create a poem about, but I feel like these stories needed to be used so they can continue being read and seen. In order to create change people need to acknowledge the past, which I hope my poem does.
