For my project I decided to make a collage. When you look at my piece, you will notice "Are You Going To Ask Them What They Were Wearing?" in big red letters. Around this question are the ages of the little girls in each of the articles mentioned above...
15-year-old girl, raped. Hospital reports cuts on her face and confirmed her rape. Two men, 20 and 21, were arrested but denied the rape, said she got the cuts from falling in the bath tub, that she had been drinking. 1950.
6-year-old girl, badly beaten, raped, and gagged. The little girl was lured into a garage with candy. She was found on a cinder pile with a fractured skull later that day. 1947.
12-year-old girl abducted and raped by motorist who lured her and another child into his car. The 23-year-old man asked the little girl and boy to be directed to a garage. The little boy, scared, ran off while the man then proceeded to park in an isolated area and attacked the girl. He slapped her and began his assault. She was later found on the side of the road suffering cuts and bruises. 1949.
5-year-old girl enticed away from a drive-in theater playground and raped. A passing motorist found her 5 hours after the attack. Witnesses said she was taken by a middle-aged man. Medical examination confirmed she was sexually attacked but was not hospitalized for treatment. 1953.
62-year-old white cotton mill worker arrested on charges of raping 2 teenage ‘negro’ girls. A 13-year-old accused Warren H. Brabham of raping her at a deserted shack but if was a charge made by a 16-year-old girl that led to his arrest. 1951.
Harry Eno was charged with attempt to rape 11-year-old girl. Eno persuaded the girl and her two cousins, 5-years-old and 3-years-old, to follow him into the woods in back of a cemetery. According to the testimony of the child and others, she was not injured. 1913.
A jury returned a verdict of not guilty after hearing the testimony in the case of Albert Hayward, 19. He was accused of raping a 12-year-old girl but because he there was people in the house at the time, including his mother, it was not possible. 1941.
An application was filed for the release of Wm. Bradon who was serving a ten year sentence for raping a 6-year-old girl. It had been discovered that the crime was committed during the time where there were no laws to punish these criminals. Bradon was released. 1882.
Frank Sandridge was convicted for the rape of a 10-year-old girl. The judge did not impose a sentence rather he referred Sandridge to a parole officer. According to the law at the time, the court can not impose a sentence in rape cases until a request is submitted by the parole officer. 1952.
Two coal miners charged with raping a pretty 16-year-old girl while holding her date at gun point. State charges of rape and armed robbery. 1953.

Joseph Butler plead guilty to the charge of raping his 11-year-old niece and intent to rape two others. He was sentenced to life with ten days of solitude. 1883.
The reasoning behind my project is to really showcase the idea of how what someone is wearing has nothing to do with why someone is raped and/or assaulted. All the girls in these articles were underage, ranging from 3-years-old to 16-years-old. What could a 3-year-old be wearing that would be considered provoking?
