Joseph James DeAngelo, A.K.A the "Golden State Rapist" caused pain, suffering, and fear in Southern California during the time he committed 50 rapes against women and 13 murders overall between the time period of 1974-1986. A normal looking police officer, DeAngelo would force himself into homes in the middle of the night and rape, then sometimes eventually kill women. He also forced a woman to marry him by holding her at gunpoint. DeAngelo unfortunately evaded being caught until 2018.
