I created this collage using images of newspapers, articles and pictures to show how Recy Taylor and Rosa Parks battled injustice in their lifetime. Both women, despite how dangerous it was during the Jim Crow era, stood up and fought against the inequity they faced. I highlighted the titles of the papers to show how the story of both women were portrayed to the public during their time. Both women were not only fighting for their own rights, but for centuries of women who followed behind them. I think it is important to compare the images in the newspapers to the portraits taken of the women later on in their life. In the newspaper, Rosa Parks and Recy Taylor are seen as victims. The headshots of the two depict strong, powerful women who stood up and created change.
