I was once a beautiful blooming rose
Bringing others joy with my aesthetic appearance and my exquisite smell
He took that from me
Plucking my pedals off
As I lay there
Emotionless and empty
Screaming for help
The pedals he didn't pluck off
Fell
My victimization was never acknowledged
I'm left as a burned rose
Never to be the same again
According to the statistics published by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, 1 in 5 women will be victims of rape compared to men which is 1 in 71. Women have experienced rape at much higher rates than men have. The problem that was seen throughout history is that in most cases, justice is never served and it is leaving women forced to deal with the repercussions of rape. Women in the past have been left to deal with children that were conceived from rape because resources were not an option for many in the past but even if the resources were available such as abortion or therapy, rape victims will never be the same again. The injustice is still alive today and rape needs to be recognized and more action needs to be taken to stop rape.
