Grew up in Santa Barbara with her adopted parents. Freddy and Jim were happily married since they legally could be but together since they were twenty-two and met at a disco in 1979. Fred was a dancing bartender. Jim was the fly DJ. Dad (Jim) teaches Mandarin at the University of Santa Barbara.
Was brought into the CIA by John Bishop but spent time learning from Tennessee Smith, too.
Speaks Mandarin and Cantonese.
Spent years posing as her dead twin sister, Jiang Kun, in MSS.
Birth mother had her smuggled out of the country. Kayla had been born a twin when China’s birth rules allowed for only one child. Her sister, Kun, had stayed behind and become an MSS agent.
It was Kayla's sister who had a brief affair with Big Tag that nearly led to him not being able to father children.
Worked for the Agency for years before leaving to join McKay-Taggart.
Tucker, Jax, and Owen were her boys. Her brothers from another mother.
Liked to call herself Mother of Pranksters when she was in watching over the Lost Boys.
Now handles security for Josh. Lives in Malibu.
Summers? Lexi could you have possibly named this glorious goddess of sunny assassination after the one and only Buffy Summers. Damn straight I did.
I didn't really have a plan for Kayla until she turned up again in Master No. This was one of those "hey, I can use that" moments that happen often when I'm writing.
Kayla's animal friends reflect some of the animals I saw when I was in Malibu researching for her book. I did, indeed, make friends with an otter and a couple of dolphins.
Kayla loves romance - as several of my heroines do. Her favorite authors are also mine including Rebecca Zanetti and JR Ward.
