Chloe Takeover, Latin Titles, The Lost Boys Books
Chloe Vale is taking over Inspirations today!
One day many years ago, Lexi and I were heading into New York City for an event. We were in the back of a cab stuck in terrible traffic between the airport and Manhattan. It was in the back of this cab that we got a brilliant idea.
Lexi was finishing up Nobody Does It Better at the time and was starting plans for the Lost Boys books. So she needed titles. Lexi always loved the idea of Memento Mori for a title and had been looking for a place to use it. How about for Jax’s book? He was dead, in a way.
And since she was doing Latin for the first book, how about doing Latin for them all? That turned our cab ride into a productive time of Googling Latin terms about death and time and memory. And this is what we came up with:
Jax: Memento Mori
Owen: Tabula Rasa
Robert: Ex Novo
Tucker: Damnatio Memoriae
Ezra: Carpe Noctem
We thought they were the coolest titles ever!
Others did not agree. Lexi’s publicist at the time wanted to know why Masters and Mercenaries had a paranormal title. Many reviewers said the same thing. Overall, the titles just confused readers.
And then the amazing Liz Berry, owner of 1001 Dark Nights and Blue Box Press, and our very close friend pointed out the titles had been there the whole time. Everyone called them the Lost Boys. The titles should all have lost in them.
Duh! In all our discussion time in the cab, that never came up as a possibility.
And that is why Jax’s book was renamed and Lexi now runs titles by Liz before announcing them.
