Big Tag and Charlie
Most authors will tell you they have a soundtrack for the books they write. Some of us are meticulous about writing down a playlist, matching the songs to the scenes. Yeah, I’m not that writer. I’m the writer who tends to focus on one song for a book or a character, or in this case, a couple at a very specific time. While it would be silly to say anything but “Sweet Child ‘o Mine” is Ian and Charlie’s song, it’s not the one I listened to over and over again as I was writing Love and Let Die. Ian and Charlotte’s story is pretty action packed and dramatic, and I kept getting pulled back in by a Florence and the Machine song titled “Over the Love.” It’s big and swoony and dramatic. In my head when I run the trailer for the movie I would make of Love and Let Die, this is the song playing. There’s a couple of lines from the song that just directly speak to me about what Charlotte’s has to overcome. “Because you’re a hard soul to save with an ocean in the way, But I’ll get around it. I’ll get around it.” She does have to cross the ocean of time and pain between them, but the good news is Charlie doesn’t ever give up. So give this a listen. It’s a really great song and a big inspiration for me.
