Time Dilation and The Lost Boys
So this is specifically about where I first heard about time dilation drugs. I read a lot. I mean a lot. I love reading articles about future tech and what’s happening in the world. I love history, and that includes the history of science and how the things we create can make life better or worse. So you would think I maybe learned about time dilation through a scientific article. Maybe I read a journal or talked to a doctor.
No. I also watch a lot of TV.
It was Elementary.
This is the American TV series starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. There’s an episode titled “The Eternity Injection.” It deals with an illegal drug trial for a drug called EZM-77 which turns out to be a time dilation drug. I won’t give a bunch of spoilers, but it hurts who you would think it would hurt and helps the very wealthy.
I found it fascinating and started to research, learning this is a theoretical drug. Like many human creations it has its advantages. A prisoner could serve a term without losing too much time. A person who is dying could live a lifetime with the help of the drug.
But naturally I went to the dark spaces. Torture and pain could last forever. It could be used to condition human subjects.
Thus was born Hope McDonald and her experiments. It’s a great episode and a wonderful show, and I thank everyone involved for the inspiration!
