The Rock Church, Helsinki Finland
The entire premise for Dungeon Royale came out of a European cruise I took with my husband way back in 2015. It was a tour of the Baltic and took us from England to Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands, Estonia, Russia, and Finland. Needless to say there was a ton of inspiration, but one of the best was from Helsinki, Finland, at a place they call Temppeliaukio kirkko or in English—The Rock Church.
This is the first place where Baz tries to meet up with Walter so he can get the information on the biological weapon Walter has. It’s a hard place to miss. It’s built directly out of solid rock, and the majority of the light the sanctuary is bathed in comes from skylights. Because of its unique structure it has acoustics that have caused the church to be used as a concert hall many times. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Helsinki, and I can attest to the fact that there is a really good sniper position on top of the church. The whole place is Charlotte approved.
So if you ever find yourself in Helsinki don’t miss the Rock Church. Just duck if you see a strawberry blonde chick on top of the building. She’s probably working.
