Onion Strings Ruby Tuesday Copycat Recipe

Ingredients

1-2 Vidalia Onions (I chose Vidalias because they taste better to me)

TIP** Use 2 onions for a large crowd. For a family of 4 you can use 1 onion

2 cups buttermilk or regular milk with 1 tablespoon vinegar added.Coating Mix

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour

    • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

    • 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper

    • 2 qts. vegetable oil

    • 1/2 tsp. cracked black pepper

Deep Fry Thermometer

Instructions

Peel and slice onion very very thin. You will want to see the knife through the onion while cutting. Separate onion rings and place in a 9 x 13 pan or dish. Cover with the buttermilk. Soak for at least 1 hour to overnight. Place in fridge if soaking overnight. **You must soak in the buttermilk or they won't be the same.

Mix all dry ingredients together in medium size bowl with whisk.

Preheat oil to 375 degrees in 3 or 4 qt. stainless steel pot .

*This is one of the most important things to reach and keep the temperature at 375. Check frequently.

    • Remove onion rings from buttermilk with tongs, draining some.

    • Place in coating mixture, moving and separating so all are coated.

    • Fry in oil 2-3 minutes or until lightly browned, moving in oil easy after frying a touch to brown evenly. Turn until browned to your liking. ** Keep in mind this will go quickly so don't do anything else when frying these.

Drain on doubled paper towels on platter. Tent with aluminum foil to keep warm. Serve immediately for best taste.
